From what I have seen of the "rock savers", don't they have built-in jacking/lifting pads that basically cover up the holes you would put pucks in?
They're nice, but what happens when you need to have the car towed. I understand that is where they hook up to winch the car up onto the rollback.
On my car, the rocker savers only cover part of the rear frame holes, and I can still *just* get my pucks in. To make them sit flush, I trimmed a bit off the top of the puck on one side to accommodate the rocker rail.
Cheap version: $8 for a bag of ten hockey pucks on sale at the local sporting goods store, and $2 worth of lag screws with eyes (eyes sized to fit frame slots). Drill hole in center of 4 pucks, insert screweye to appropriate depth in each. Voila' -- your own custom-built jacking pads
Wouldn't I have to jack the car up first in order to install the frame rails?

This may or may not help, but I used a motorcycle jack and a drill with a right angle attachment. The frame rails balance on the jack with about a half inch clearance below the frame. Once positioned correctly, raise the jack into place a couple of inches to clamp the rails in position and enough to clear the drill attachment. Then drill the four holes and screw 'em down.
www.bavauto.com jack support-E36 P/N51 71 1 960 752 I paid $6.95 each two years ago. I put a tiny dab of liquid nails on each one to make sure they didn't rattle. 22,000 miles and no problems. You can't see them unless you lean way over. Their sides are tapered so they won't catch on anything.

I cannot find hockey pucks in my area. I tried Sports Authority, and they don't carry them (in my area).
Has anyone bought them, or know if they are available at Wal Mart ?
try www.hockeymonkey.com or www.hockeygiant.com they are hockey equp suppliers, they will ship right to your door. never thought my hockey fetish would payoff for my corvette fetish.
you could also check out Outdoor world in Fort L, they may have something similar in the boating section.

Just be sure to keep drill level to ground. Pretty easy install.
