Default Fitted Luggage Project. Interested?

Some of you might have been watching this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...6&page=1&pp=20

What we're up to is making a prototype set of fitted soft sided bags that would fit in vettes to ease loading for trips. Many cars (like the Crossfire) offer these already.

We are making a set of two bags that would fit in the available space left to right and from the taillight covers to the back of the retracted convertible top and a third bag that would fit in the space from the back of the partition to the two bags I just mentioned. This bag would be used on FRCs and verts which wouldn't have the top down during trips. All bags would have zippers on the top to allow entry while the bags are still in the rear.

The idea here is to load the bags in the house for trips and then put them in the vette, maximizing the available space. There is a prototype set being made for the FRC and a set for a vert.

What we're looking for is ideas on the project and some idea of interest among the forum members. Neither of us are in the business. We're just regular guys with a love of our cars.

What do you think?

I think it's a cool idea, but generally, when I travel anywhere that requires overnight luggage, I fly.

Since I would never drive my Corvette to the airport and leave it at a parking facility, I'm not too sure that I would ever really be able to use something like this.

Great idea

A basic model with just handles. They should be double handles of 2 sizes or single handle long enough to go over the shoulder

An upmarket version with wheels and a pull bar to give a choice.

Square section to maximise space. Need side pockets for docs etc. Top opening to get access when in the trunk.

Ideally with Corvette Logos. Provided with sew on logos if GM trademark is a problem.

I'm not familiar with the material. Pics would be good.

As always it would depend on price. I wouldn't pay way over the odds just to get a bag that fits the space perfectly.

My wife and I take a lot of long trips in the C5 so fitted luggage has definately crossed my mind. I know they make them for the C4's. I agree with DeeGee, wheels on the luggage would be nice (preferably mini Z06 replicas ....I'm kidding of course but pull wheels on the bottom would be nice)

As far as colour goes, I really don't car but I'm sure the other half would want them to match the interior of the car...light oak...ya, thats it...she's the one who wants it to match the interior

Good luck and if you decide to something for the Coupes, keep me in mind

I'm not sure how to approach bags for a coupe. Would we be talking a set that would still allow you to stow the top, if such a set is possible? Would coupe owners want bags that were taller than those possible in the FRC or vert, blocking the rear window? Would a set for a FRC work fine in the coupe but have additional space on top of the fitted bags for other items like coolers or garmet bags.Need some help here.

We will resurrect this thread from time to time to keep soliciting ideas from those who haven't seen it yet. Meanwhile, the prototype set for the FRC will be first and as soon as we know more, we'll have an idea on price and will, of course, post pictures.

Vinnie,
I just saw this post (linked from the other post). I have a coupe -- I'd DEFINITELY be interested in a bag designed to fit under the top!! What a fantastic idea!! There's plenty of volume under there, just the odd sloping shape...

Default Luggage to fit C5

"I use regular luggage & can pack for a 2 week trip w/o problems."

You can travel two weeks without having to do any laundry? OK, now we're getting personal but do you change underwear every day (to clean underwear, that is)? Also, are you travelling alone or is there a lady with you as that's where the most luggage requirement is needed! I could probably live out of my car if it were just me but add the female of the species into the mix and, voila, 3 times the space is needed! BTW, don't let my wife see this...

This luggage to fit our cars sounds like a great idea! I'm just surprised no one came up with it before now. I would be interested in a set for my C5 Convert CE and black is always nice as it goes with all interiors and the logo looks great on it!

....I use regular luggage in my Z06. I hate saying this but; with the "trunk lid", there, I've said it, open I can fit just about anything from 20 bags of groceries, to 4 pieces of luggage, or 2 adult size bodies...
