Pulled dinto to the gas stations the other day and there was a sign posted on the pump that stated the gas contained 5 % Ethanol. Do any of you know if this is bad for an LS6 are other high output engines?
I read somewhere that the government has decided to mix 45% Ethanol
to 55% gas sometime here in the next 2 weeks. I was wondering if anyone else saw this and if there is a Tech that could chime in what affect will this have on stock and modded cars?

you can't use more than 10% ethanol unless you have a flex fuel car.
The funny thing about this is that I just tuned a car that made 667 rwhp and 708 tourque with this fuel at only 10 psi.It never once detonated and seems to be just fine.
Chevron station in carrollton tx -Marsh lane and keller springs. It had the sign on the pump stating that some fules may contain up to 10% ethanol.
I think using the ethanol in the vettes will not be a problem judging from what's in the owners manual. What you have to watch for is not using methanol in the car.
the only downside to ehtanol is that it will slightly lower how many miles per tank you get. I get about 220 per tank, slightly more if i throw in highway miles
I heard on the news that one of the reasons gas prices are rising is because suppliers will not be allowed to use MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether) as an octane enhancer additive after May 1, 2006. The replacement is ethanol, and the fear is that there is not enough ethanol to substitute for the MTBE! First I have heard about that.
MTBE was nasty stuff, they needed to get rid of that a long time ago. It was used at low concentrations as an octane enhancer, but more recently gas companies were putting lots of it in fuel to meet the requirements for an oxygenated fuel, and that is where the problems came from...
Not that I'm any kind of "grennie", but MTBE gets into the water supply and doesn't go away.... It was one of those "unintended consequences" where they wanted to oxygenate fuels for less air pollution and ended up damaging the environment worse with the leakage from fuel station tanks...
Ethanol is much better and tends to raise octane number more, although you need to burn more of it to go the same distance....

Off subject but I make it to Carrolton /marsh ln a few times a year for work, my company has a big data center there. Do you have a store front? I expect to be in the area in a few weeks.
