I changed the oil on my 02 vert, again I used Mobil 1 but instead of 5w 30w I used 10w 30w. I have piston slap noise and info from this forum suggested that a weight change may alleviate some of the annoying slap noise. I shouldn't have a problem with the change ?
I use 10-30 for the same reason and I found no noticible difference in the sound. Believe what you want, I've read a lot of articles on piston slap and not one has been terminal. I have 78,000+ miles on my 2000 coupe and have no issues with oil consumption or any other problem that would relate to piston slap. More than anything else it's just annoying listening to it. I do what a lot of people suggest, Just crank up the tunes and ignore it. Manual says you can use the 10-30 if you live in an area where the temp. doesn't drop below freezing. Good Luck.

If it really bothers you to much, you could do a cam swap add some long tube headers and a BORLA setup and you can listen to the sweet sound of your valve train and that rumble of the exhaust!
BTW, is the piston slap on your car just during the cold starts and goes away when your car heats up? If so, I wouldn't sweat to much, that is the norm on the LS1 powered cars.
