98 tranny leak sometimes??

98 tranny leak sometimes??
i just got a 98, 63k miles.
and noticed a small puddle of tranny fluid on the ground.
its coming from the front of the tranny. looks like its leaking from the gasket. the thing is it does not leak all the time. just a couple of days out of say maybe three weeks.
i guess my ? is ... is there a over flow on the tranny?
is it normal or is there a problem.
