Why???
That's typical of CF forum members to comment on what they use but not why.
What makes Mobile 1 the right choice?

My advice is for you to get out your owners manual and read it cover to cover before leave the house again! Read and heed all it says and you'll be a better owner. It'll even tell you about oil and filters.

The recommended oil is even printed on a sticker on top of my oil filler cap.....
Mobil 1 5w30... buy it in the big 5 Gal container at Wal-Mart or something and save yourself a few bucks (you'll have to buy two extra quarts, too).
I like the NAPA gold filter made by Wix.
As far as why to use this oil... it meets the GM specs. 'Nuff said.

Because it's easy to get, and is recommended by the manufacturer.

doesn't really matter what synthetic you use. They are all good.

The reason the majority of this board including myself use Mobil 1 is because it gives you the warm fuzzies.

BINGO..!! Thank you.
I also have a 2000 and it didn't come with a manual and the oil changes are coming due here pretty soon.
I like amsoil and simply wanted to know what the reasons are for using the brands & weights recommended by the CF members.
Thanks,

Use a fullly synthetic oil that meets GM4718M....
only a few do.
Mobil 1 is one of them. That is what I use. It was the factory fill and is from a brand that I trust.
Regarding filters
AC/Delco is fine.
I also will use Mobil 1 extended life
K&N
Wix
NAPA Gold

I stick with the manufacturers oil recommendation
The filter came recommended by a colleague who knows about these things
I also have a Fiter Mag fitted.
