Default (Un)Common problem?

Had the GM recall (column lock) in Nov. '04; aftermarket clb installed in Jan. '05 and STILL had problems with the "pull key, wait 10 seconds" code. Installed yet another clb; got the same code the following day. Mechanic suggested the key might be worn out. Sure enough, bought a new key from the dealer and woohoo - column lock free - at least for a day. Hope this (new key) does it. Have any of you had a similar problem?

I have a 04 ZO6 and it is acting wierd sort of like yours. I got the service column lock message today. I used both keys and it still was there. Did you just buy or have one key made?

Never had the column lock problem with my '00 (had both the recall done and CLB installed). Hopefully the key was your culprit.

The problem you are describing is not the Column Lock, but a VATS system problem relating to the little pellet in the key. Try cleaning the old key well with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. You will likely be able to use your old key again

Thanks for that info. I now will keep the old key (got so frustrated, was going to throw it away). At $50 ea. that could get expensive.
