Default C5 Oak Interior Question

I am about to change my FRC interior from black to Lt. Oak. I recently bought these Lt. Oak parts: seat skins, door panels, glove box cover, knee bolster, carpet, mats & seat belts. Are there any other Oak parts in a standard Oak interior?

Glove box is NOT standard. Glove boxes are black in Oak cars, at least in mine it is, and mine is an '01.

FWIW, I put black mats in because the the oak ones will get trashed really easily. In fact, you may want to consider keeping your black carpet, just because of that. In fact, the oak seats and trim on black carpet will probably look sweet!

Seems you just about got it covered. Door panels are just the lower half, carpets naturally include the area behind the seats. What's a knee bolster? Is that the part under (below) the steering wheel? That panel is oak too. Also, oak is the part that runs along between the carpet and the door sill.

In my 99, the glove box cover is oak.
...and I agree with the black floor mats.

Default Oak

RAILFAN The part between the cqarpet & door sill? Do you mean the plastic part that runs between them and tends to hol the carpet down? Is this part oak or black in a standard oak interior?

My carpets looks gloomy if I didn't keep them clean.

It's Oak, but if your other plastics are black, you might want to leave it black, even if you do go with oak carpet, because that plastic rocker cover thing can look nasty pretty quickly in oak, because scratches from shoes and all that stuff is easy to see on the light oak.

RAILFAN: I wonder if GM went from oak console door cover to black in the later years because the oak console door cover wears out faster?

I have an oak interior in my Z51-A4, I recently re-upholstered with two tone tan and black seats. They really look goos!! as opposed to solid Oak color. Will try to upload pics later.

What are you doing with the old black parts? What kind of condition are they in?

It was Oak in my 2000 coupe. Personally, I would keep the black pieces - the Oak shows scuffs badly.

Default Oak Parts

I am planning to keep the black parts. And I agree with the combination of Oak carpets & black mats. I've used that combination before several times, and it looks good, and is fairly easy to keep clean. To me an oak interior is has a warm rich look that I don't get with an all black interior...and the oak should brighten things up a bit too.

In my car, a 99 coupe that is original, as far as I know, the color of that part is oak. I figured that it was some sort of trim holding down the carpet. Thanks for the clarification.

Mr. Lead...Who knows why they changed the color. So far, my interior is holding up very well. Of course, the original owner only took the car out once a month from April thru October. So the car was hardly used when I got it in 2004. Not now. I use the car (lots of cruising), so time will tell.

HummelS...Yeah scuff marks show, but cleaning builds character. Or at least thats what I'm told.

Toolluster...I couldn't agree with you more.

Default I've done this mod already :)

Here are a few pics. I need to get the seat skins and recover the subwoofer box. I like the look, but I got hosed on the carpet deal. I paid to much, the driver side sill panel is majorly scuffed, the driver side door panel has a soft spot where your knee rests and he cut the carpet out in the small storage compartments. (Stereo speakers I think) At least the covers hide the fact the carpet is cut.

That's weird. I wonder why mine is black, then? What color is your car? Maybe that has something to do with it? Mine is Mag Red. Do you happen to have pics?

Edit: oops, just looked at your profile and saw the color you have. I see you also were referring to the glove box cover, where I was talking about the center console compartment cover. Sorry for the confusion... on MY part.

I thought about doing the same thing, but gave it up after getting almost all of the parts together. I believe the only items you're missing are the sill covers and the pilasters for the seat belts.

Default Missing Oak Pieces

Thanks for all of the help on identifying parts. The only parts I seem to be missing are the oak plastic parts between the carpet & the door sills. Anyone have these parts?

Double Aught, thanks for the pics. The oak carpet, black mats look great. I think that will be the combo I go with too.

My 2k vert also has the oak glove box cover. The plastic that holds down the carpet by the door sills is oak too. I put some clear plastic shelf paper over the area where your feet hit it....on the sill too...and helped solve the skuff problem.

I don't care for the black mats on the Oak....like you said the oak lightens and softens the interior. I bought a new pair of Lloyds double Logo mats for show, and use the stock oak mats for everyday driving.

Bet your car will look real sharp when you are done.

Here's a few pics of mats i have and the interior parts.
