I just purchased a 2000 coupe 6 speed with 13K miles and I have no backup lights. I assume that the bu light switch is faulty? Is there an adjustment on this switch? Where is the switch located?
At the risk of sounding dumb, what are the running lights on my car? Are these the amber parking lights that stay on when the ignition switch is on? I apologize but I haven't got through the owner's manual yet.
The reverse lights are controlled by a switch on the tranny. It is a very common problem.
The "DRL" Day time running lights are just what they say, they are the yellow corner markers that are always on. They are required by law in Canada and soon to be here also.

DRL's suck. i ride harleys and it's light is on all of the time to help me stand out, if all of the cars have it, it will just be common place and a bad thing for motorcyclist everywhere

Thanks,

When you lock the car with the remote do the reverse lights flash on?
If so and they do not work when you are in reverse you have a bad switch on the tranny. Cost about $15 at autozone. It is on the passenger side of the transmission, kinda up high. Takes about 15 min to change.

I operated the remote lock and the bu lights work. Sounds like a bas bu light switch to me. Need to get it on my lift.
Congrats
What kind of lift? Show us Pics of your vette and lift!!
Bingo,
Give me a little time. Just bought the 2000 coupe two weeks ago -- MY, 6 sp, 12K miles. But you ought to see my 66 convertible -- just finished a 5 year body off resto. NCRS Top Flighted at 99 out of 100%. My garage is a two story detached with three bays downstairs and two up. Bathroom/shower, cable TV, air compressor, fridge, etc.

I've been riding for over 40 years (harley's for 11). One of the best saftey laws passed IMO for m/c's was mandatory Headlight ON on m/c's.
I can still remember how often I wasn't seen by motorists and the many close calls I had before that law.
Having running lights on cars on all the time doesn't change how well motorists see m/c's. A light is a light.
JMO but, if it can be seen, it's a good thing whether its on a car, m/c, bicycle, or skateboard for that matter.

Same bike after new paint, chrome and custom work.
Thanks to all for help here. Got the car up on my two post lift and it was a snap replacing the bu light switch -- now have lights in reverse. Next job, the modif. for the 2nd/4th gear shift issue on the C5. Hate it when you are at low rpm, try to go into 2nd and have to fight. Will order switch from Mid America.
