Homelink mod almost done (PICS!)
So far, I am on my 3rd Homelink transmitter from Ebay:
In order to test, I hook the leads up to my battery charger.
The 1st one from an 01 Lincoln would not even light up so I thought it was defective.
My 2nd one would reset the codes properly(hold down the two outer buttons for about a minute until the led blinks), but I could not code to the Sears Garage Door opener, either with the Garage Door Opener remote or the "learn mode" on the opener itself. One garage door opener is 5 years old, and the other one is 11 years old. Source of Homelink was documented on Ebay as a 04 Chrysler Sebring.
My 3rd remote would light up but would not respond correctly to the reset of the codes. Source of Homelink was documented on Ebay as a 1999 Chrysler Sebring.
I thought that this would be an easy mod, instead I am very frustrated. Before I buy an assembled unit, I thought that I would check with the forum to determine if I am doing anything wrong, or is there another way to test a Homelink unit out? Is the battery charger a bad power supply for testing?
Thanks
Are you sure you have it wired correctly? Also the instruction require that you train the old remote to the Homelink and then the home link to the opener. It can be frustrating but done correctly it should work. That said, I would wire it directly to the battery. Your charger may not give a consistant current and it may be screwing up the training. I would think the chances of 3 bad units is slight and most likely operator error.
Good luck.
