In the market for a vette (again), and I found an '01 Electron Blue that has 91,000 "freeway" miles...I've never purchased a car with that many miles, but it's in my price range ($22K before negociation) AND it's the color I want which seems to be hard to find.
Is that too many miles? Would everything be pretty much downhill from this point on??
ive got 91k on my 97 and its mechanically as sound as a lower mileage one...no problems here. personally id say go for it if you can get it paid for in cash or real quick. something about owing the bank 4 or 5 years on a 90k mile car doesnt seem right though...

If that's the only color you want and the car checks out OK, it could be a good deal with a lower price. However, if there are other colors that you would accept, you might consider a '99-'00 model with a lot less miles for the same price.
Way too many garage queens out there to buy something with 90K. I'd agree with the above post and say buy a slightly older version with much less mileage. Even if you have to go further away to get it. Good luck.

I have 80k on my 99 and it runs just as good as the day I got it. I would think a lot would depend on how you are going to use the car: daily driver or weekend cruises. At 91k the big money repairs could be right around the corner- or at least more likely than something with about say 20k miles. Also, think about how many miles you plan to put on it a year and figure out where you will be in 3-5 years and how much your cost of repairs will be over that time for this car as compared to a model with less miles. Good Luck!

It depends on the maintenance and care. A normal operated and maintained engine these days are good for 200k plus miles. What other things has been replaced by current or previous owners? What are you going to do with it, what would be your average miles per year. Figure at what point you would replace the car with something else.
Would you do the maintenance yourself or take it to a shop? Some of the components will be more of a risk at the higher mileage, like starters, alternator, shocks, oil pressure sending unit, etc. Just don't know when you would need to replace, could be at 92K or 192K. Maintenance and parts replacement cost need to factored in.
I don't think you will find an answer since it is realy a personal choice.
Good luck with what ever you decide.
Keep looking. It took me a while but I found a black 99 with 27,000 mi. on it for $23,000.The thing never saw the rain.Someone out there will have to sell so be ready to jump on the deal.
Pull the trigger. I bought my 01 in 04 with 48k miles for $27k. Put over 35k miles on it and haven't had a single problem with it. I can still drop the hammer on some open road and she's just as responsive as the day I bought her!
please, with all do respect...do you really have to ask our opinion on this one? I mean really, if you buy that car for that price your a fool.
Take the time to shop around there are way too many deals out there.
It would be hard to buy a car with that many miles on it.

Why? Just adjust to price you offer until you are comfortable...
Seriously my neighbor just retired from GM (as a Factory Rep) and swears that the engine is designed to go 300000 miles before needing a rebuild...
Not saying that they will last that long...BUT all of my Corvettes except the 98 have over 100000 miles on them ...2 do need valve seals but otherwise I would not be afriad to drive them cross counrty tomorrow...
50k miles on my 01. There was a time when I was putting some miles on her but that has changed. I've been working so damn much this past 2yrs, it took away my driving time.
