Default C5 Tech forum helpful, but depressing

I've been spending a lot of time on this forum lately (it really is addicting) and I am very pleased. I used to only go to the tech forum when I had a problem. It frustrated me with all of the problems that I read about that I worry are going to go wrong with my corvette, but spending time on this general forum the past couple of days has really made me excited about my car again!

You guys are uplifting!!!! Thank you to everyone!

Same reaction from me, But remember that at any time, the people with problems are more inclined to write. The rest of us who aren't having huge difficulties with our cars are just reading.

We could start threads about not having problems! That would be refreshing.

Best thing to do is just enjoy the car. Things will go wrong eventually, but just remember its probably happened before to someone else and chances are there is a write-up about it here. This place has helped me a number of times fix things.

Read the factory manual if you really want to get concerned! Actually these cars are very reliable. I bought my car brand new 6 years ago. I have modded the poop out if it and now has 431.5 RWHP. After a few glitches in the first year of ownership, it has not broken. I wasted my 6 year GM extended warrentee. Drive the car and do the proper maintance and you will be fine.

1998 purchased new Jan. 1998, 57,000miles. DIC is dim, exhaust weld broke, headlight gear replaced. That is it. I drive my car like hell. Enjoy your ride, it will not fall apart.

Enjoy the ride. For the most part things are pretty up beat here in C5 Gen.

Remember there are about 250,000 C5's out there so some of the things you read are small issues and fixes compared to the number of cars out there. Also the C5 owners tend to want things on their cars to be perfect. So we want to fix the little things on these cars that we often wouldn't bother with on the family sedan.

The tech forum is for (mostly) solving problems. The general is for... what ever you want to post about a C5. Many of the problems posted are common with other vehicles that use the same part, component etc. It keeps the cost down. There are some unique problems with the Vette. As I read I wish the moderators would start a FAQ section or a sticky that would list how to repair. It would save seeing the same question over and over again. (Just do a search on Oil Pressure sending unit)

We are also a bit more picky.

Bought my 98 with 46,000 miles, now 95,000 miles (daily driver) and only the oil pressure sensor went bad ( I get 45,000 (back) to 55,000 (front) miles on tires). Front pads changed out at 46,000 miles due to state inspection, I changed again at 90,000+ miles to ceramics and fronts were very good condition.

Most reliable car I have ever had. Didn't use my 3 year 36,000 mile extended warrenty (but was great peace of mind).

These cars were made to be driven, have fun and DRIVE IT !

The best thing about the Forum is that the straight forward things that go wrong can be fixed without and expensive diagnostic visit to the Stealership. Someone here has had virtually every problem known to Vette Owners.

You're right, it's a great place

Patience(aka Procrastination) has been the best for me. For at least a year, I haven't had the ability to see my HVAC display, but read plenty of threads about who to send it to for repairs. Just this week, I've learned what the fix is and will perform it myself.

If it weren't for this place, I would have thought the car is a POS the first time my column locked up! I would have hated to drive with the top down and the windows down for all the wind buffetting inside the car, but I learned about the hatch latches. I DEFINITELY would still be riding around on rusty old rotors, instead of Zinc-treated drilled/slotted Sportbrakes rotors for $250 shipped, and carbon fiber pads to minimize dust!

This place is the ****!(still trying to figure out what that means!!! )

Don't be depressed by what you read in the tech section. You are doing a smart thing by reading about other people's car problems and solutions. You are gaining a great education about a very complex vehicle and knowledge is power. It will be your best weapon of defense when the day comes for you to make some repairs.

yea, I think that is the only downside to the forum someitmes, it's a catch 22 because it's such a great resource for help/knowledge that sometimes people only post when they have a problem, so it appears there are tons of problems, when really it's just normal.

Enjoy the car

CF is definately the best. bar none!

and each forum (tech, general) etc is a little community i sort of think .. sure there are some that hope about from tech to car care etc -but generally i enjoy varied posts 'even if they are SUPPOSED to paste in the 'care crew' area for 'detailing questions' --> sure you can but if its not where you hang out............ i dunt see what the big deal is...
