Default flush mount tail lights

I am installing the "LOWES" flush mount tail light kit and was wondering which do you affix the weatherstrip to, the rear fascia or the back of the tail light itself. thanks for any help and or tips.

I also had to trim the weatherstrip to get it to seat good.

Where do I find info on this? Pictures, type of weatherstrip, etc. I would like to seal the bucket too, I get road spray in from the back where the wiring goes thru.

FOUND IT IN ANOTHER THREAD

Very nice! Thanks for the pics. My only concern is how do you keep the area behind the lights from filling up with dirt, road spray, etc. kicked up from the back side? Now that it is sealed around the light it won't get rinsed when you wash the car.

Don't ask me! I can't see that area unless I take the lights out.
I don't worry about what's behind the light. It's probably filthy, but who will ever see it?

I like your kit much better, also do you have any problems with the light moving, like its not mounted solid

Thats a nice install, but please put low tack blue painters tape on the bumper so nothing gets scratched by the lights.!!

Nice install post. I personally like the original look, but your write and pics make things worth-wild on doing it.

I have not had any problems with any of the lights moving. You must use 2" long screws to reach through the nylon spacers into the factory holes in the car - otherwise I'm sure it either wouldn't thread, or a screw might even back itself out with vibration from driving. But with the 2" screws in all 8 holes, it's not been a problem for me. (knock on wood) I've had mine flush mounted since March 4th of this year and no problems.

This is how I did it...

(6) 1" L X 1/2 W X .194" Hole Size Nylon Spacers
(6) 1/4" L X 1/2" W X .194 Hole Size Nylon Spacers
(8) #8 x 2" Zinc Pan Head Screws
(1) Frost King Rubber Foam Weatherseal 3/8" W X 5/16" Thick x 10' Long (Adheasive backed)(I got the black weather stripping)

Simply unscrew tail lights, clean, put weather stripping around the tail light (where the red casing meets the black casing of the light) insert new screws and spacers on back side, screw back into mounting hole.

-The two center lights get one 1" spacer on each screw.
-The outside lights get three 1/4" spacers on each of the outer most
screw
-The inner screw on the outside most lights get one 1" spacer.
-Fit so the weather stripping looks good and screw them back in!

1" spacers $4.77
1/4 Spacers $3.42
Weather stripping $3.98
Pan head screws $.98

Peace

That's pretty much what I used/bought, execpt my Lowes had 3/4" long nylon spacers, so I didn't have to stack up three 1/4" spacers.

Jim,

Nice post. I did the DIY method over 1 year ago and they are hanging in there fine.

Thanks for the step by step version.
