Thoughts and options on new shoes for Mag-Red Vette?
Looking for black painted wheels with a chrome or polished and clear-coated lip. The deeper the lip, the better in my book.
I like rivets, but smooth is ok. My favorite that I've been able to find are these:
I searched all over the net and they appear to be i-Forged Classics. I picked myself up off the floor after having fainted, and am now posting for advice on similar LOWER PRICED alternatives!!! BTW, pics of black/polished lip wheels on Mag-Red sure are hard to find! Think it'd look alright?
You're not going to be happy going with some type of "lower priced alternative". Quality wheels for your car are expensive as hell, plain and simple. Unless you opt for some aftermarket Z06 rims from somebody like House of Wheels. Best bet is to save save save, and then splurge on exactly what you want. However, Mag red with black wheels and polished lip does NOT look good in my mind. Could be wrong, but that doesnt sound like a good color combo to me. Maybe you can make it work, hard to tell.
Regardless, there are very few "cheap alternatives" to choose from for wheels on our cars. I highly doubt you will achieve the look you are after with cheap wheels. I was insanely lucky to find my HRE's for a once-in-a-lifetime deal right here on the forum. You should frequent the For sale section here, and wait it out until something turns up that you like. Personally, for black wheel polished lip, I'd be ALL over a set of CCW classic streets. They pop up in the FS section all the time.
Heres a pic of said once in a lifetime wheels, HRE 545R's, in damned near perfect condition, with rubber, and got them for 1/2 of what they cost new.

I'm with VetteHunting - don't recall ever seeing a mag red car with black wheels on it. Just don't think it would look all that good - chrome or polished would look so much better IMO. But, you are the one that has to be happy with the looks, so if you like it, go for it. There are some nice looking, lower priced black wheel sets out there - Z06, Z06 Motorsports, etc. that may fit your budget.

iForged is a lower cost alternative to HRE - but certainly not low cost. They are quality American made wheels. Nothing wrong with the OEM knockoffs - but most are made overseas. My problem with the knockoff wheels is that I wanted something a little different.
I agree - I'd keep an eye on the C5 Parts for Sale/Wanted section. You might even consider placing a WTB post out there. Seems like there are folks trading up to C6's more and more, and some of these guys "de-mod" their cars to get the most out of them. You might be able to pick up a set of real nice wheels with tires for less than the cost of a set of real nice new wheels alone. Good luck!

IMHO: the black centerface wheels always look best on lighter colored vehicles such as White, Pewter, MY, and, Velocity Yellow, because the lighter body color offers enough of a complimentary contrast to be visible and attractive. And, on the other hand, chrome, or, highly polished wheels are stunning on medium to dark colored vehicles such as Black, Medium Spiral Grey, Electron Blue, Nassau Blue, and, Magnetic Red, etc. However, to each his/her own. In fact, the pic above posted originally by Go FasTA3 (an electron blue C5 with the TomZ Wheels black five spoke and bright rivets) is gorgeous! Nice pic! Enjoy!
