Default Automatic Headlights

I was wondering if someone could assit me with a question. Is there a way to enable the automatic headlights without them operating during the daytime?

The only way I have found to cut them on, is by cutting on the "Twilight Sentinel" in the DIC menu. However, when I do this, my headlights and running lights come on anytime the ignition key is on. At first, I thought this was some form of day time running lights, but as mentioned, full headlights and running lights are always on, as if the head lights have been cut on.

New to the GM world and am not sure if this is proper operation or not, or if the light sensor that should operate the lights could possibly be bad. If this is possibly the case, does anyone know a way to trouble shoot this?

Thanks,
Deuce

Makes me wonder if the light sensor is blocked or has failed. The way it should work, is if a low light condition is present the lights will activate. Tunnels, parking garages, etc. should turn on the lights. It might activate the lights early in the morning if you're close to sunrise, and the light hasn't hit the sensor. I have it in my DD, and that's how it works.

I have no idea how to test the sensor or troubleshoot it. If you have a service manual, I'm sure there's a decision tree in there that will take you through it step by step.

Most of guys that I know with newer Vettes (newer than mine anyway) with Twilight Sentinel, have it turned off - less wear and tear on the fragile plastic gears in the motor is their rationale.

Welcome to the forum and Vette ownership!

Headlights should not be on (up) in the daytime unless you have a sensor that is bad or is blocked.

I'd say a bad sensor, is the setting all the way down to the lowest setting? If it is try the sensor.

Is yours a Canadian export model? I think those are supposed to be on all the time. I've seen some posts on how to change this, but I can't seem to find them with the search function today...

Look and see if you have "Z49" (Modifications, Canadian, Mandatory Base Equipment) on your option list.

If so, see if this helps - scroll down a bit...

Got to be a bad sensor or other electical malfunction. The headlights should only come on when the light sensor detects a very low light condition.
