Vararam Filter Cleaning
I just bought a used Vararam with the foam filter and I'm not sure how to clean it? Does it get cleaned and oiled like a K&N filter?
Thanks in advance.....

First, good choice on an air system.
Second, get rid of the POS foam filter! It will fall apart on you, and doesn't seal to the airbox for shyat! Get a green or K&N filter from Vararam. You'll thank me. So will your throttle body and engine.

I've been looking online for the K&N or green filter. Vararam wants $60 plus $10 shipping for the green filter. That's crazy

No, it's the market...
That is about what the K&N will cost you and it will not fit as well as the new Vararam cloth filters.

OK, so while I am looking for a replacement filter, how do I clean the foam one? Then does it get oiled?

I got mine from LAPD with a foam fileter, they said don't oil it. Not sure how you would clean it, maybe just some soap and water. Ask the Vararam peopel.

There is a forum member DSOM Z51 that used to be here in C5 until he got his C6.
He did all kinds of on track testing with the Vararam.
You can try to contact him
As I have a foam filter, I wrote down his advice
Clean with K&N Air Filter Cleaner
Then K&N Filter Oil (lightly)
Then Lightly spray with PJ1 Foam Filter Spray (get this at a dirt bike shop)
I have other notes that say clean with TSP, then Dawn then PJ1 spray
I guess the secret with the oil is to go lightly or it will screw up the MAF
I am not a mechanic, mostly a parts changer, so I usually don't have much to say here..
But since no one was chiming in to help you, I thought I'd put in what I've got.
I've been using the foam filter, and checking my throttle body, and it remains clean.
DSOM Z51 also said he had no problems with his foam filter.
Although I might get one of those new Gray filters they have (I've got the older system) but no one has addressed the "fitment" issue here yet.
Try to get contact DSOM Z51, he's very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about Vararam
