You had better stop trusting Steve!! All gasolines have cleaning additives -- some are better than others. Chevron and Texaco use Techron which agruably is the best additive going.
And since I switched from Mobile to Shell, Chevron or Texaco my fuel gauge problems are gone.
I had the "problem" with my fuel guage sticking, going to empty on the gauge, with over a 1/2 tank of gas in it. Put a bottle of techron in it twice (two tanks of gas) and the problem was solved. That was months ago and no problems sense! I use different gas from different stations, only 91 ,or 93 when available, but you can get bad gas from any station. I am sure that every tank of gas we buy is not always what we pay for. It would be pretty easy for a gas station to put 87 oct. in a 91 oct. pump. You never know....
Save the $130 bucks next time. Run some fuel system cleaner periodically (maybe once a month) and stomp on the go-pedal every now and then. It's cheaper than this service (which is good but only needed for extremely filthy fuel systems)
This would be more expensive than the fuel rail flush every 2 years.
I get the rail flushed in my Infinitis every 50,000 miles. It is a machine that pumps cleaner through the rail, which does a much better job than the cans you pour into the gas tank. It is about $120 per visit at the Infiniti dealerships. The GM dealership price sounds about right.
My gas gauge started acting up last week. I only put Shell or Chevron fuel in the car, but my wife chases the low price around town. I need to break her of that, before is costs me a LOT of money.

I have a $7.00 bottle of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner that is 6 months old only 1/2 full. From my view, it's cheaper than the $100 bucks or so that the dealer is charging for this one time deal.
The other alternative is to do it yourself. PepBoys sells the cleaner for about 15-20 bucks and the hose with connector isn't much more. Matter of fact, I think you can rent it. You just have to know where your fuse for the fuel pump is and you're all set.....
But then again, I think my simple $7.00 or so a year is easier All my vehicles get this treatment and have had no need for the dealer to clean the injectors and fuel delivery system.
I had a "fuel system cleaning" done in connection with my 30K service, and as some mentioned....the difference was amazing. Seriously, I was blown away. Of course, this was temporary. I sort of wonder, if maybe...the fuel system cleaner or some other component acts as an octane booster or something to add a little kick. It seemed to wear off soon enough.
