Call me crazy but check with Geico. My wife and I recently switched from USAA to Geico and haven't looked back. With USAA, our insurance bill for a year of coverage was $2412 here in NJ. That was with the following: 93 Trans Am, liability only; 93 Trans Am, liability and comp ($1000 ded); 00 Lincoln LS Full Coverage ($1000 ded's); 99 Celica GT liability only. Switching to Geico with NO changes in coverage netted us an $800 a year savings.
Now that we've gotten the Vette, we're STILL paying less than what USAA wanted for the four cars above. Our Geico policy with the 5 cars has us at $2200 a year. Once we delete the Lincoln after we sell it, our rates will be going to below what they were before with Geico. Yes, the Vette insurance under me is cheaper than the Lincoln under the wife. USAA couldn't touch Geico's rates and can't understand why people in NJ are leaving them in droves.
Was with Allstate. Geico saved me about $275 per year and gave me more coverage.
I had Farmers for about 15 years, no tickets or claims. The rates increased a little at every renewal, I grumbled but stayed with them. Last fall I bought my 01 C5, and they wanted an outrageous amount. I checked several companies, found Progressive to be the cheapest by far, $100 less than Geico. Needless to say, I am a Progressive customer now. I not only insured the Vette with them, but also 2 other vehicles as well. Total bill now is less than I was paying to Farmers BEFORE I even bought the Vette!! In fact the Vette is cheaper than our 03 Monte SS by $22!! I can't say how they are about claims or how much they'll raise in the event of a claim, and hopefully I will never know....

I switched from Geico to Progressive. I saved 53% in doing so. I pay $509 every 6 months for a 03 Vette and a 01 Volvo turbo. I'm 50 with no claims or tickets.
I have not had any experience with Progressive as far as claims go but have had to contact their customer service a couple of times when I changed from a 96 vette to the 03. They were fast and courteous. My premium only went up by $29 for a 6 month term.
No but when I did sales for them I was licensed in Texas as well as about 25 other states.
Just an FYI for all it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to compare rates between eachother, everyones situation is different, location etc. A favorable area/etc for one may be unfavorable for another, insurance companies use SO MANY factors to determine rate now its not just simply what kind of car do you have and how old are you.
Get state farm
I have had State Farm for 22 Years and now they have raised my rates (no claims or tickets) up by $250 in the last two pay periods, they only write a policy for 6 months. $865 for full corerage on three cars. $1730 a year. I checked and whent thru AARP and I got the same exact coverages for $975 a year. So after the 15th of May State Farm is Histiory. needed to have changed a long time ago. Over 50, go thru AARP!
From: The second childhood is the best one of all.
I switched to Liberty Mutual. They had the best rates in my area. Progressive was about $800 per year higher. BTW, all of the major companies are the same when it comes to claims. They'll try to get out of paying if they can. I was in the insurance biz for 12 years. Go with the best value.
I was with Erie Insurance. They had great prices and a good reputation. My wife was hit by a non-insured driver in a not-at-fault-accident. She had some injuries. I had to hire an lawyer to get them to pay us anything for pain and suffering and wage replacement although she was entitled to payment in our State under the uninsured motorist coverage. It was the only accident we have had in 25 years and neither of us has had a ticket. Erie refused to renew our policies when the were up. My only other claim was fixing a windshield chip.
Insurance rates vary all over the place ,even within a State. My brother lives 50 miles from me in a different zip code, had the same Insurance company, same driving habits, cars differed by one year his Insurance was almost twice what I paid... ???? TWICE !
Anyhow..I now use American Collectors to insure my 98 Conv..
Yea I am limited to 2500 miles a year..but I have zero deductable, car is insured for 35,000 (may be worth it to have someone steal it so I could collect the full 35,000)...
Anyway They normally do not inusre any Corvette until it ia at least 15 years old...But I also insure my 64,72,76, & 79 with them ...and had my 95 insured with them also...
Total Bill for all 5 is less then $800 a YEAR ...
One claim in 15 years with them ..not a single problem with them to fix the car TO MY SATISFACTION...
There usage limitations mean they are not for everyone but owning multiple Corvettes makes living with thise limitations pretty easy...especially for the money..
Thanks again for all this good advice. I need to do some shopping.
I know what you mean, I live in Dallas so that doesn't help my rates, but I got rid of my Vette and got a Nissan Maxima and the my allstate 11+ clean years monthly bill went up $5 bucks. I was pissed.
I agrued with them about how a $15,000 dollar Maxima could have higher insurance rates then a $50,000 sports car with 2 seats and 2 doors over a 5 seater with 4 doors and front wheel drive??
I work for GEICO, we are extremely competitive in Texas, and we have been making a lot of good changes the past few years to give better rates to all. Give them a shot its free you have nothing to lose.
(Before anyone asks no I cannot tell you what rates would be)
Everytime I've ever called GEICO they are always more expensive. Did something change in the past few years? I'm not bashing, just curious as I have mine with Farmers and if something can save me money, I'm on it. I pay about $100/month for my C5 with the higher coverage, 100/300 and $500 deductable. No tickets/accidents and I turned 35 on May 5.
Here's one no one has mentioned: AMICA. To get a policy with them, you must have a late model vehicle and you must have a clean record. Once you're with them, they don't care about tickets. I have not shopped for insurance recently, but last time I checked, no one came within a couple of hundred per year. They are consistently rated #1 in handling claims also.
I left progressive for Geico when I got my vette. NOt because I didn't like progressive but I got a mil discount with geico that made a big enough difference to switch.. I had to have progressive bail me out once... not at fault accident and they took great care of me and my claim... stuck it state farm and their demand of $800 for a hubcap....
FYI, Progressive is considered a non-standard company. I suggest you look at at standard company or a preferred company if you qualify for them. As I've said many time here, what Joe pays in one state has nothing to do with what Jim pays in another. There are over 100 variables that make up an insurance premium. Yes, credit is a big one in most states, whether you like it or not. PM me if you would like more information.
I know guys that work for Progressive that wouldnt use Progressive if that means anything.
Our insurance is about $850/6 mo for our '01 Civic, '04 F150, and the '99 Vert through Geico.
All State blows..... My agent decided since he cant insure our cars, he would make more on the home insurance. That'll change soon too. I may switch over to Travelers for our home owners insurance.

This statement illustrates the general publics' ignorance when it comes to insurance. I don't work for Allstate, but I can assure you that your statement is incorrect. Your agent has no control over premiums. Those are set by Allstate and filed with the state. If you are insuring only your home with a carrier, you will not be eligible for multi-policy discounts. Is as simple as that.

Call it I dont really care about "why"....
As far as Im concerned, the insurance business is on par with Exxon and the oil industry. They both got you by the ***** and you have to like it.
