Oh no, the dreaded car insurance thread. This one might be a little different. I've been with Allstate for 26 years, but their rates keep inching up. I went to Progressive for a quote and sure enough it was almost $200 cheaper for the year for the Same coverage on my 3 vehicles.
If you are a Progressive user, what kind of service have you had. Any claims? How did they handle them?
Thanks in advance.
btw, I'm 55 and haven't had a ticket in 25 years and my last claim was 12 years ago.
I've had nightmares with Progressive for out of state claims between MA and NH. We owned our home in NH for more than 7 years but Progressive spent 6+ months to determine our residency before they finally paid.
I have recently switched from Progressive to Travelers. Travelers has offered me coverage for HALF the cost of Progressive.
I recommend checking them out. They don't have as good of a website for policy changes as Progressive, but I can deal with it because the cost is significantly less.
Call me crazy but check with Geico. My wife and I recently switched from USAA to Geico and haven't looked back. With USAA, our insurance bill for a year of coverage was $2412 here in NJ. That was with the following: 93 Trans Am, liability only; 93 Trans Am, liability and comp ($1000 ded); 00 Lincoln LS Full Coverage ($1000 ded's); 99 Celica GT liability only. Switching to Geico with NO changes in coverage netted us an $800 a year savings.
Now that we've gotten the Vette, we're STILL paying less than what USAA wanted for the four cars above. Our Geico policy with the 5 cars has us at $2200 a year. Once we delete the Lincoln after we sell it, our rates will be going to below what they were before with Geico. Yes, the Vette insurance under me is cheaper than the Lincoln under the wife. USAA couldn't touch Geico's rates and can't understand why people in NJ are leaving them in droves.
Sorry to get off topic there, just trying to say shop around some.
sorry for the mistake Geico was way cheaper for me than Progressive
It was cheaper to insure a 2000 c-5 than my 2000 harley!
i have everything with geico. Towing, rental, 100-300 colloision 500 deductible 259 for 6 mos. (in upstate ny 6 mos is all ya get due to weather)
good luck
I work for GEICO, we are extremely competitive in Texas, and we have been making a lot of good changes the past few years to give better rates to all. Give them a shot its free you have nothing to lose.
(Before anyone asks no I cannot tell you what rates would be)

I just switched to Travelers from AIG and I thought AIG was good.
I used Geico for years (maybe 15 or longer) and in the past several years (about the same time their ads started in TV) time after time I would have to call Geico to ask them "Why do you keep raising my rates or how come x insurance is lower for the same coverage?"
Geico's response, I would hear "Oh, you now qualify for a blah blah program, and we can reduce/remove the increase" or "Since you are a valued customer..." . I should not have to call Geico on renewal to yet again reduce my rate. Frankly (and no offense to the Geico employee in this thread), it is BS tactic.
I finally had enough, I have higher limits but same deductibles with Progressive and a lower annual rate, and I even had other policies with Geico. Seems like the aggressive advertising campaign costs were passed right on to you know who.
Shop around every six months, it is worth the effort.
Tough to compare insurance but I will throw my recent experience in the mix as I just did a quote search last week. I had Progressive for 7 years and my rates hit an all time high w/o any tickets or accidents to speak of. So, I hit up all of the major insurance companies last week and came away with same coverage for half price via Geico. Goodbye Progressive, hello Geico.
I was with GEICO a long time ago, and rates kept creeping up until Farmers finally had better rates.
I was with Farmers for years, but on my last renewal I checked with AIG and Progressive and found that Progressive could save me over $1,000 a year on 3 cars. Mainly because I still have one driver under 25.
I still use my Farmers agent and he actually switched the policy over for me. I have always gotten good service from my agent, and I will have the same agent even though I switched my auto insurance. I still have my homeowners and umbrella policy with Farmers, and I suspect they wanted to keep me hoping that I might switch back to them if their rates become more competitive in the future (like when my 21 year old daughter drops off the policy or turns 25)
Progressive has been great to me thus far. Every time I've called with a question they've been very helpful.
I banged up my 2000 pretty good (over $10k in repairs), and they were very responsive and hooked me up with a great body shop. You can't tell anything was ever done and all parts were directly from GM (i.e. no cheap substitutes). The paint matched perfectly down to the orange peel. They also had it out to a local dealer, whose vette guy is known to be good and was booked out for weeks, but he got the car squared away when they requested it.
Not long after the fact I noticed one of the headlight covers rubbing, and the Progressive rep met me at the body shop to have them look at it.
The owner of the body shop also said they were a good company, in the top 3 I believe.
I have allstate and have no claims in the past five years and no tickets on my record. I am 31 and I pay $69 a month for full coverage including towing and rental.

Had AAA (CSAA) since 1974. LAst quote in 10/05 was $2800 for 2001 Vette, 2002 Silverado and 2003 Nissan Altima. Searched several companies including AARP (Hanford) and Liberty Mutual. For same coverage Liberty Mutual was $1800. I asked CSAA if they could match since I did not want to leave them after 31 years but they wouldn't even give the time of day. Liberty got my $$. 55years old, spouse 52 - no kids at home.

I switched from Geico to Progressive. I saved 53% in doing so. I pay $509 every 6 months for a 03 Vette and a 01 Volvo turbo. I'm 50 with no claims or tickets.
I have not had any experience with Progressive as far as claims go but have had to contact their customer service a couple of times when I changed from a 96 vette to the 03. They were fast and courteous. My premium only went up by $29 for a 6 month term.
