As far as the filter goes I understand that the early model 03's have a filter outside the tank (Mine Does) and later in the year they went to the in tank model. Your suppose to be able to tell by the label in the glove box door. If the RPO code has FSS then it is in the tank. BTW if it is like mine the filter is on the drivers side frame rail by the left rear and up high.

Mine is a later '03 car, and has the FSS code. It is definitely an in-tank pump. I understand the filter is in the tank as well, but is it part of the pump assembly so that it would automatically be changed with the pump, or is it separate? That's the question. Anyone know??
