CLB or Recall. What would you do?
Installed the CLB from Thunder Racing easily and my problem was MUCH worse! Tried recommended resets and battery disconects, no improvement...
Queried the manufacturer, his response.
Hello Dave,
Unfortunatly a small percentage of 97 and 98 A4 equipped C5's simply
do not function well with a column lock bypass. It could imply that
something is more seriously wrong with the Body Control Module of
those cars, or it could simply mean that the column lock bypasses
aren't doing something the 97-98 A4 cars are expecting them to do.
Either way, the best recourse may be to remove the column lock bypass
and return it for a refund, and let the dealer fix the column lock
issue altogether for you. Hopefully one of the newer recalls can take
care of the issue totally for you.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but it may be the only way for you
to get back to enjoying your vehicle without the error messages.

Pursuing other options to what for me is a minor issue.
I already had the recall done on my A4 98. Never had a problem before, but now I periodically stall and get the wait ten seconds message.Took it back to the dealer who couldn't duplicate the problem.
question is , if I get the clb installed will this fix the problem?

Well a week later - the column didn't lock but the fuel would shut off if I got over 2 mph. I couldn't get it out of the garage. I was on fire! I took it back apart, took out that piece of $h!t relay they put in and re-installed the CLB. Have not had a problem since. I don't even think about it anymore.
Pay your mechanic to put in the CLB for you - print the directions with pictures and give it to him - should take about 20 - 30 minutes.
