One of the best mods i ever purchased was the window valet it lets you roll the windows up/down with your remote so when you are imbarresed about getting out of your car to put the top up are down just hit the lock/unlock button 3 times for the windows to go up are down and most people will forget about the top and ask you how you rolled the windows up/down!!!

Welcome to the Forum. I owned a Porsche Boxster S for almost three years with one of those fancy auto tops. It was very impressive to watch. The back lid opened, the top went up or down folding inside, then the lid closed. All with a push of a button. With the Vette, I could have had it down and then back up in the time it took the Porsche to show off. Can't speed that fancy stuff up either. Been at a show when the driving rain moved in. If you want to see people watch and then laugh, try and wait on the motorized version during a total wash out. Putting it up manually, looks allot better. I know there are aftermarket versions out there. But remember, you cannot be driving while trying to put the top up or down. Must have the foot on the brake or E-brake on. BMW learned about that problem and solved that. Spend your $$ on some other cool mod.

Congrats on the car and welcome to the forum. Not a lot to add to what others have said, but, my $0.02.
I have an 04 vert as well and my previous, "less expensive" car, a 94 Z28 vert had a power top. I loved it for putting the top down, at a light. Great to not have to get out of the car. BUT, I find that most of the time when I need to put the top up, I'm getting out of the car anyway to park it. And I don't worry about putting it down at lights... I just leave it down.
Also if I hit a rain storm, I can get the top up on the vette way faster than the Z28. Over all, I don't miss the power top. And the top dissapears on the 04 and puttin on the plastic three piece boot on the Z28 took a few minutes. Again... welcome
Welcome to the Forum.. but after you've put the top up and down a few times, it's no big deal... I've gotten out a few times to put it up quickly.. It's not that big of a deal... You can usually see weather coming.. if not, better drive with your eyes open once in a while..
I think some folks like to watch us put the top up and down actually
I was hoping to trade my Coupe for a C6 Vert. Won't happen. Lately I decided the C5 is a better ride. The next Vette, in addition to my coupe, will be a Vert '02 - '04.
I would want the power option but I think I'll hold off. Too many mechanical problems.

Invest in a Window Valet and it's even easier to raise/lower the top. You can put it down from the driver's side if you're alone, but you have to walk around to the passenger's side to put it back up. Lowering it is faster than raising it, but still takes about 20 seconds.

Welcome to the fraternity, and the Forum, friend. Best of luck with your 'Vette.
It's only natural to envy the Benz guys, but you've got a much better package with the manual top. Less weight, less complexity, and not much to go wrong. When I got my '01, the only thing about the non-powered top that annoyed me was having to get out of the car to raise it, and then get back in to latch it and raise the windows. I solved that easily with an aftermarket item from a company called "TopDown Technologies". With that device (it just plugs into the OBD II port), I can raise and latch the top from outside, and then close the windows with three clicks of the "lock" button on the fob. That's pretty impressive.
I have to admit to some embarassment also. My car listed for just south of 60K and no power top? If it saves 2k though I'm all for it. It's still the best sports car for the money, and it is so easy to do manualy.

Ummm, I never walk around to the passenger side to put it up OR down. Why would you have to?!?!
