I know it can be put down quickly, but its reassuring to know that if you are driving and the weather turns quickly, which it often does in the NY area, all you have to do is press a button and the top will go up just like it does in some $20,000 production cars. Thanks for the responses guys.
I just sit back down (without putting my legs back in) and just reach over. Faster and easier than walking all the way around the car.
I just do both sides from the driver's seat as well.
to the forum and congrats on your '04 vert! I also have an '04 and I was also surprised when I realized it didn't have an auto top.
But, like most others, I could care less now - the thing is just too freaking easy to put down and up and takes so little time, I would much rather save the money AND the weight!
Congrats on the new Vert. Looking at my sig you made a great choice
Try living with it for a while. I thought the same when I first got the Vert. My friend had a Honda S2000 with a power roof. Side by side my roof went up and down quicker than his. It takes seconds and less to fail. The extra weight will cut down on performance and it takes room in the trunk.
Overall, once you accept the manual option its better all round. JMHO.
Hello and welcome.
As said before- check out Top Down Tech(Forum vendor). The window Valet is the best $150 (or under) and fastest mod you can do with a Vette. IMHO The auto Top is the worst option on the C6 list. It is fun to watch on an XLR.
I've had mine in all weather and drive it mostly with the top down. Be happy with it or trade to a C6 with a power top
Then how do you latch the passanger side? You have to walk around or get back into the car.
Or you are a lot shorter than me (6'2) and can bend down under the top easily.
I don't latch the passenger side when parked. I latch/unlatch from outside by feel without bending over. The top stays down tight with one latch and if I decide to leave the top up & drive, I just reach over & latch it from the driver's seat. I'm a 6-2 overweight pre-baby boomer. If you have a vert, you must have a Window Valet. No discussion.

I agree with everything, except I still walk around to the passenger side, reach in through the open window and latch it down as well. I'm concerned with uneven compression wear on the seal by only latching one side. I found my Window Valet used on the forum for $105 that included shipping, with the original box and instructions. Best mod money I've spent, so far.
Thank you to all the members who checked in on this one and all the warm welcomes!! In a short time I've come to realize that this is a great site with a lot of great people involved! Thanks Again!!!

I much prefer my manual top on the Vette over the power top on the wife's Sebring. Just this morning I was in her car with the top down when it started raining pretty good. I usually would keep going, but I knew that I had a few stops ahead of me. As I stopped and sat there pushing the button and getting soaked, I couldn't help thinking that I could have put the top up on the Vette in much less than 1/2 the time.
