Car Envy

What?
Thats a rather blunt & ignorant statement IMO... lolI Love the SRT-8, that engine is awesome and commands respect. I'm 'enthusiastic' about that engine. In a lighter car, that engine would perform far better. (In fact, i'm enthusiastic about the entire SRT-X line-up, all those engines are pretty impressive, 4,6,8,10) I'm hoping to see good things from the '08-'09 Challenger.
As a car enthusiast, i'm not enthusiastic about the bulky 4200 pound beast Dodge put it in. It's not an attractive car IMO. And in this (subjective) category, i don't think it holds a candle to the C5, and i'm not going to admit as a whole its a nice car...
That by no means says i'm not a 'Car Enthusiast'...
Car Enthusiasts are supposed to have opinions ya know... everybody likes different stuff... you don't have to like everything...

Dan

You keep compairing the 4 door Charger to a C5. That's not a fair comparison seeing that it's not even supposed to compete with the C5. That's like compairing the C5 interior to a BMW interior and saying "Oh the C5 with it's cheap plastic interior can't hold a candle to the BMW, I'm not going to admit as a whole it's a nice car."
Like I said, if you can't atleast repect the car for what it is, you don't deserve to call yourself a car enthusiast (notice I said respect, I never said that you have to love it).

IMO, it looks too big and truck-like. I'll admit the concept Charger was also a four door, but at least they were able to blend in the rear doors so they flowed into the body lines. Perhaps if they named the car above something other than Charger it wouldn't have been so bad

And it's 'performance' is the only thing that gives it ANY hope IMO. I don't think it's a nice car because IMO it looks terrible, and I wouldn't want to drive it.What makes a car nice to me is a combination of performance and aesthetics. If the car has one but not the other, it’s Not in my ‘Nice’ category.
The looks on the Charger really kill it for me, so even with decent performance I don’t think it’s a ‘nice’ car.
The Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe has decent performance and unique style, so it is in my ‘nice’ category, although not the “fastest, lightest, best handling car on the road”
The Hyundai Tiburon has decent looks/style but sorely lacks performance, as such is also not in my ‘nice’ category.
Cars don’t have to be the best, but you gotta feel good driving it. And for me, I wouldn’t feel good driving that car…

Dan
EDIT:
I'm not trying to argue with you on whether or not the car is 'nice' or if it 'deserves respect' we all have our own opinions. What I’m Arguing with you about, is the simple, ignorant, frankly incorrect statement that just because someone doesn't think the Charger is nice, automatically revokes their 'Car Enthusiast' status... that’s ridiculous. As enthusiasts we’re supposed to have opinions… our informed opinions on cars is exactly what makes us enthusiasts…

I just let my cam do the talkin... no revs ......just idle
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I like the car........just don't think it deserves the Charger name. The Challenger on the other hand......put it on a diet and you've got a winner.

Appearantly you are just mis-understanding me then. I don't care if you like the way it looks or not, I realize the car isn't for everyone (just like the Corvette isn't for everyone
). All I'm saying is respect it for what it is (which it sounds like you do). Take a look at the list of cars I posted that the Charger is trying to compete with. How many of them have over 400 hp? Just like I can respect the Hyundai Tiburon for what it is, I expect people who call themselves car enthusiasts to respect the Charger for what it is. An American made, 425hp 4-door sedan, with features such as navigation, 20" wheels, heated seats, etc, that can be had for under $50k.PS- From this quote it sounds like you haven't even driven one. Talk about a rush to judgement.

You didn't mention 'respect it for what it is...' you mentioned 'i have to think it's nice or else i'm not a car enthusiast' and thats what threw me...
:
Am I miss judging them? Does this 425hp 4200lbs beast corner like it's on rails? (I doubt it...) Or, does at atleast corner well considering what it is? (The respect it for what it is you're talking about...)

Dan
Right on my friend! Seems this topic pops up quite a bit with various different makes/models. The bottom line is, which car would you rather pull up in? How many Magnum owners walk in their garage at night and say "Wow! I can't believe I have one of these in my garage!" Yeah, envy is a bugger!
And I have to admit, that IS a beautiful car and they sound great. Wouldn't give up my C5 for it, but it would be a great addition if I was a rock star and had a stable!
New is nice and the fact that it has a personified V8 makes it a player in whatever wars these are. I remember having the first on my block (Or first in many places for that matter) WS-6 Trans-AM back in 1996, when they were first introduced and I felt like a million bucks. Would I rather still have it over my C5? Probably not but it was the reason that I modded my vette so much. That car just felt super quick. Like you said if I could own a few, or even two, the choices would be difficult.*****:

Oh and those Hemis are not all the commericals crack them up to be!

Funny how in the 60's if you were caught driving a four door it had to be your daddy's car
Me i still wouldn't be caught driving a four door performance car. Yes i like the looks of the Charger but i laugh everytime i see those four doors
Everybody has there opinions. Me i never cared for the original Chargers and the GTO's. Liked the Roadrunners. Especially the GTX's and 68-69 Mustang Fastbacks. But you better not dare call me or anyone else on this board a car enthusiast because we don't like the Charger. Because if you spend anytime on this forum you are definitely a car enthusiast
