I sold my 02 Z06 and replaced it with a GTS/ACR. The Z06 was my 20th Corvette and was a very nice car. The Viper turns more heads and holds it's value better....
Have both..both are highly modified (TT's, Heads, Cam, etc.). I love both equally. The Viper plants the power better in a straight line and the torque, both off/on boost is insane. The Z06, with A4, AFRs, Cam, Non-stock cubes and TT also pins you back. The Vette is by far the easiest to drive. The Viper is just crude and raw. If you just want a weekend driver, Viper is probably a good option. It does draw attention, if that is your thing. If you need a daily driver, the Vette gets the nod. If you like modding, the Vette has the most options and the are downright cheap in comparison. A set of aftermarket heads for the Vette will set you back about $2,500. A set of aftermarket heads for the Viper will set you back $7k. Forged stock displacement short block: Viper (10K), Vette (3.5-5k).
Viper's and Vette's make me proud to be an (Cuban) American! I test drove one before buying the new Z06 and haven't been able to take get it off my mind since. The new SRT10 is a much better all around car then the previous car - even though the pedals are still off center.
Dude, enjoy your Z! You have an animal in your driveway.
I've owned them both. Had an '04 Z06. Still have the Viper GTS.
The Z06 is the better car, has all the gadgets and is a way better daily driver. The Viper is too hot, too loud and too rude. It is also ten times more fun to drive, attracts a crowd like no other and has pin your ears back torque. So it depends on your needs. Mine is a weekend toy, so it's Viper all the way. And I kinda like attention...
When I went to pick up my new(to me) vette, the guy went to a detatched garage to get me the reciepts and when he opened the door my jaw dropped. Sitting in all its glory was an original GT-40. I asked if he ever drove it, he then proceeded to tell me all about all the quirks of the car (ie. to hot in summer, susp. too firm, blah, blah, blah) I let him go on for a minute or to about all the shortcomings of the car, then said "so you don't drive it a lot because it is too much trouble." He replied " that's not what I said, The truth of the matter is, I drive it when reality permits. I love every second of it but it is not practical. When I have time to live a dream, that's when I drive it." So in the end its is as this forum member says, only you know what you need to feed. The every day or......
First and foremost, I love cars. They all have their virtues and drawbacks. I have a 67 427/435, 68 hemi GTX, 98 GTS, 03 SRT-10, a 06-SRT8 Jeep and now an 06 Z-06.
I love them all. The Z-06 is more refined than the 03 Viper. The 03 Viper is more refined than the 98 GTS and so on... The EASIEST car to drive is the Z-06. It may also be the quickest due to traction. I have worked very hard to have this selection and enjoy the fruits every day!
I would love to have a Viper but at 6'3", 220 lbs, I just don't fit, even with the adjustable pedals. I've heard of seat adjustments but haven't had a chance to try one. Additionally, the new Z is really hard to beat with great gas mileage, comfort, and convenience.
Does anybody have a viper and a z06? what is a better car to have? alot of people told me to get the new viper. but once i got the z06 I got where i dont really like the vipers. i like the looks but the new z06 will walk all over it. Im sure viper fans would say the vipers are better so i want to know has anybody compared the two?
I had a C6 coupe for a few months and traded it in on a SRT-10 Copperhead. I just picked up a
C6 Z06 this evening.
I am 6'3" 235 lbs and don't have a problem fitting in the Viper.
I wouldn't say one or the other is "better" than the other. Two very different cars.
If it's going to be your only car and it has to be one of the two, the obvious choice is the Z06. I relate my Vette to a fine surgeons scalpel and the GTS to a giant broad sword. The Vette is much more refined, much smoother, more adept to daily or atleast regular driving, although still gets attention. The GTS is a car that I like to take out to dinner on weekends or to go for a nice sunday cruise, you can't fill up with gas in it without getting a ton of attention.
In the end my Viper with bolt ons gets driven probably twice a month, and my C5 about 2-3 times a week. I see the Viper as more of a total toy, rather than a car that can have some practicality.
