Default Radio replacement options

1998 bose with the 12 disc changer.

Its not the the radio is all that bad.
But i swear the stock 96 was at least twice as good.

I was tinkering around with some diffrent ideas of what to do.
And then i figured i could simply ask and see what everyone else has already found.

id like to keep the changer in the back, if not them WMA or MP3 on a burned disc are a must.
I also am kinda impressed with the options that have the station ids, and song information sent from various diffrent stations.

I mostly listen to metal... soft rock ... 80 rock ... some classical ..
Im all over the map ... NO rap .. and none of the old country

Id like to get something that has some excellent sound with good bass.
But im not really keen on the idea of adding amps and huge woofer boxes in the back... Id like the speakers to look as close to stock as possible, radio can be changed as needed ..as long as it got some dimmer options. (replaced one in my 2003 truck and the light is blinding even at the lowest levels at night, lucky there is a option to turn it completely). Id rather just have a good dimmer that works with the cars lighting system.

So far i havent been lead too far off the path from the advices here .. so im looking again

maybe check out the audio & electronics forum. we got an (((xm))) satellite radio in nov 2005. never, ever in a million years would have thought how much we'd like this. since getting xm, we've not played terrestrial radio nor cds in either of our cars. the units are pretty cheap these days; even an add-on, take-it-to-other-vehicles unit is pretty goof-proof & convenient. the variety of channels will amaze you. good luck. bub

Seering - your tastes in music pretty much match mine. I researched for about two years before I made the change in my vette. I too wanted the speakers to look stock. I found the company JL Audio. They are more than just a speaker manufacturer. They are an engineering company. They make component speakers that will utilize the stock grilles in the doors and Co axial speakers for the B pillar again utilizing the stock grills. In addition, they engineer the what's called a stealth box. This is a subwoofer that is designed to fit in the center well space in the coupe. Therefore, when installed, you don't see it and the install looks completely stock. Your factory cd changer can fit in either of the two remaining wells. I did add a 500W amp that you can see but it was installed as though it looks facory. The company that installed it made some custom pieces to fit around the amp such that it has a factory look. I went with the Alpine IVA-D300 for the replacement of the stock radio. The set up sounds awesome with a near perfect factory look.

Everytime I get in our '96, I'm reminded of how much I want to change out what's in the '04.

I have XM in my DD and I LOVE it - I think I'm going to make sure I add that when I do my upgrade, as well.

One big decision is do you want Nav mode? If not the choices narrow.
