It's really a toss up. I noticed somewhat of a difference 15% maybe. From outside the car the lights look much brighter and it is a cool look. The vette still has horrible lighting and I can't see **** haha
Lets put it this way, if someone had done this mod to my car without me knowing...I wouldn't have noticed.
I pu the silverstars in mine, I thought it was a noticible improvement over stock. That does not mean that the lighting is good or anything. Now it's just crappy instead of completely crappy. If you really want good lights, pay the money for a HID setup.
The 9005 should not have "gone right in" in place of the 9006. There is a couple of tabs that need to be filed down before the "key" will work.
I did this a few years ago and think it is a good compromise to HID considering the price. Took about five minutes per bulb and I took my time with a Dremel tool.
More than likely there has been no permanent modification to thesockets themselves as they are not long enough to get outside the bucket area.
can anyone answer my question?
I didn't ask about the lighting.
Sorry, I can't answer your question but I did this conversion last weekend. Now you've got me wishing I would have just tried plugging them in before I cut the tabs off. BTW I was very pleased with the lighting improvment.

Well I did burn the 2 tabs off inside the bulb so the connector would go in. But I didn't modify any of the 3 tabs that hold it in when you twist it in the housing. Aparently you should need to take a little off of the middle one but I didn't and I'm pretty sure my bulbs went in correctly.
When I did the mod the high beam silverstar would not fit in my low beam socket with modifing it. They were definitly brighter on mine, in fact had people flash there lights at me to dim, until I flashed back to hi-beams.
I just bought the GE Nighthawk bulbs for high and low beam and they are every bit as bright as the Silverstars that I have in my Impala, and they were $10 less per pair.

Same here...from totally crap to just crappy lighting...Bill
Yeah I agree I can't see **** unless it's 20 feet infront of the bumper or closer.
I did verify today that my bulbs were in correctly and I did not modify the tabs at all. Took them out and inspected them and see where the tab that needs to be modified was scrached a little but the bulbs did snap into place and are not moving...just a note for those that didn't do it yet it's not needed
haha 15 replies later, still no answer to your question, i dont think they should have fit but i havent done it on a vette yet
Yeah I know...everyone probably just modified them like the instructions said without trying to put them in.
I checked mine tonight. Took them out and put them back in. Def. hitting a little on that tab but they snap into place and are not ever moving so it's good.

Actually the 9006 - 9005 conversion is a 60% improvement in lumen output.
Two 9006 bulbs are rated at 2000 lumens. (1000 ea)
Two 9005 bulbs are rated at 3200 lumens. (1700 ea)
