Valentine 1 Problem?
Recently I have been noticing a problem with my V1. As I approach a radar signal, the alert sounds as usual. However, the directional arrows show the source to be in the rear, not the front.
This continues to happen in different places, and was most prevalent on the drive home from CI VII (I thought it was the backwards nature of the Kentucky Troopers ).
So, any clue? If it only happened once or twice, I would have thought it was a trap, but I'm sure it isn't.
Maybe you should take it apart and see if anything is blocking the front sensor. I had a problem with mine (wouldn't read the majority of K/Ka signals) that I bought second hand. So I sent it in to upgrade to the latest version for $65 or so, they replaced the guts and volia, good as new.

I have 3 V1's and the one that is oldest is giving me similar problems. Its one of the thick bodied versions. I'll get a signal for laser with side and rear arrows lit up. We don't have laser that I know of around here, but I have noticed that high mounted 3rd brake lights on vehicles in front of me will often trigger a laser warning but with the side and rear arrows lit. Sometimes it just goes off for no apparent reason. I called Valentine and they had never heard of an issue like this and didn't think I should bother sending the unit in for repair because there were no signifigant updates needed yet. Annoying, but still the best protection out there in my mind.

Which band is the V1 reporting to when the arrows don't work correctly? See if the arrows are working correctly when you drive up to door openers, speed signs, and other normal falsing places with X band and K band.
The V1 can also be fooled to point in the wrong direction depending on the terrain and vehicles around you. My arrows have flashed in another direction as a big rig drove by me because of the radar bouncing off the truck. I have also had the arrows point behind me briefly if the radar is coming from my front and I am going down a hill.
The arrows are almost 100% correct on flat terrrain with small vehicles around but if you are around hills and big rigs, the arrows are about 97% correct but that is just my experience. I still can't imagine having a radar detector without arrows since I started using a Valentine One in 1998.

New Verizon and Sprint phones will cause the V1 to give an intermittent rear or center signal depending on where the phone is in the car. It happened to me when I bought my new Samsung (forget the odel # - their version of the Razr). Confirmed this with Valentine. The best you can do is put the V1 in the less sensitive mode, "L" I think and keep the phone in your pocket. It sucks. I really think V1 should figure out a fix.
I have also noticed is that some tailights on cars, especially LED lights will set it off. I keep mine right by the rear view mirror and Chevy Trailblazers always trigger a laser signal when stopped in front of me.
A lot of those blinking road const. signs will also give you a very strong signal.
May not be your problem but worth mentioning to everyone who may not already know.

Not sure if that particular model would cause the interference as I was just told "new Sprint and Verizon phones". I played around with mine and if it was on the dash it gave a center signal, anywhere behind the dash a rear signal. If you hold it up against the radar detector right by the sensor it will trigger it in a matter of a couple of seconds usually. It would even do it if in the center console or glove box. Only the reduced sensitivity mode on the V1 and having the phone down near the side of the seat next to the door (like your pants pocket) seem to work. Happens in my company car too (2005 Chevy Malibu).
One of your antennae is broken. NOT blocked, don't bother opening it because the radar can see through almost any material that might be in the way. I'd return it to Valentine for service.

Yes, some phones will trigger the unit. Also, cars/SUVs with the new neon third brake light will trigger the laser detector (not sure about LED). My laser also goes off when I go through a toll plaza - they must be using some type of sensor that is in the laser light band.
