Default Intermittent Engine Check Light

Greetings,

After about 6 months of shopping around, I recently bought an Electron Blue 2002 Z06.

The car is in excellent condition and as all of you know it is a BLAST to drive.

It has one problem though, the Check Engine Light comes on intermittently a little less than half of the time.

The previous owner claimed it started doing that after the installation of the Halltech air intake kit.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks, Darryl

Common problem after the installation of any of the cold air intakes, dyno tuning will solve the problem but I would wait to do it untill after all mods you plan (if you are planning any) are done.

If the CEL relates to the air intake, then usually the code is P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean (P0171 and P0174...going from memory here). It is a almost always a transitory condition.

But as a new owner, I'd do the following:

(1) check and retighten all clamps on the air intake. Ensure no air leak.
(2) If the CEL recurs, pull the codes and be their meanings and that none are C (means current). If it is the lean code and alway flagged with an H (means history), then it really reflects a transitory condition that I wouldn't sweat.

If you find different codes, post them. And someone will provide perspective.

Check for an air leak.

Crap on the sensor can cause this also.

I use some spray contact cleaner.

Don't touch the sensor array!

Daryl, you really need to see what the code is. If you can take it to a friend with an A-Tap or Scanmaster it would help greatly. You just don't know until you have the code as to where to actually start looking.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all the info!

I have not had the time to do anything (family issues [urgh]), but I will post whatever I find.
