Night Time Nirvana
I just got back from a roundtrip drive to Hollywood and back (about 95 miles each way for me). I left this afternoon to go meet a friend for dinner and just got back a few minutes ago. My temp gauge read as high as 106 for the outside air temps on the way up. Needless to say, I had the top up and the A/C blowing cold. It's been freakin' HOT lately. I could never deal with living in AZ or NV...
But on the way BACK. Now THAT was paradise. I dropped the top and hit the streets close to 10:00 PM. Driving down Hollywood Blvd., taking in the spectacle of humanity on the sidewalks, air temp was 82 degrees!!! It was around 80 for the entire drive home, and only dropped to about 74 at the lowest. By the time I got home close to midnight, my scalp was numb from my hair blowing all over the place on the freeway.
But WHAT A BLAST!!! Summer's a little early here in SoCal this week, but it sure felt great tonight. Really glad I bought a vert. Oddly enough, I only saw one other 'Vette all day. A C4 that I passed up on the way home. I waved. No idea if it was returned, but I was more interested in keeping my eyes on the freeway traffic.
Wish we had some of that hot temperature here in Connecticut. Seems like all we get lately is rain. We have had maybe 5 really nice days out of the last 45. The balance has been rain. We needed rain but this is rediculous!
Enough crying! Driving with the top down is the best. But for me, its the best without the targa top.
My roof is down on principle. Some days in Vegas its too hot to keep it up, you burn your fingers on the release catches taking it down and you need the side windows up to trap the air from A/C in the cockpit
I went topless this morning (5:00 AM), 82 degrees. But its going to be 110 this afternoon My baby will be snug in the garage long before then and I'll be in the pool

One thing I forgot to mention about the daytime ride up to Hollywood. I was on Interstate 5 and hitting a little traffic, enough for a motorcycle to split the lanes. It was over 100 degrees out and this guy had a leak in his fuel line that was spewing out a mist of gasoline out of the right side of his bike (I was to his left, fortunately). I don't think he realized he had a problem, but I was glad I had the top up for once! Happier still that someone he was passing didn't toss a cigarette butt out their window!!
