Default Best Model Year Value

I'd be interested in thoughts on the best C5 model year for the value when considering a purchase.

1997-98 would be cheapest, because of 1st years of C5....

I would say the 2000-2001.Enough improvements over the first model years, but still in a good price point without getting too close to C6 territory. If you are going to spend the money for an 03 or 04,you may as well consider going to a C6.I just went through this decision process myself.I have had a 97,98 and 2000frc C5 and loved them.I wanted another one and narrowed it down to a 2000-01 for value or just bite the bullit and buy a new one(my first new one).I went with the C6 but after 2 months and 2400 miles in it,I think I would have been just as happy with a low mileage millenium yellow 2000.It is mainly a toy car for me,not a DD.

I think there is value to be found in any of the C5 model years. However, there were a number of improvements made to the C5 in the 2001 model year:

Model year 2001 Press Release - More Performance...

Model year 2001 Press Release - More Agility...

Model year 2001 Press Release - More Refinement...

Good luck finding the right C5!

sjohnson....congrats on the new c6! i'm sure at some point many of us who are driving c5s will bump on up to the c6. when we had a c4 we never dreamed that we'd have a c5 and frankly did not imagine what a quantum difference there was between the two. i'm sure you don't regret a c6 for a second but most of us (well, at least you & i) do not use the vette as a dd-----moreover i think we probably just enjoy immensely driving a car with the power, handling, & history of the corvette. i don't flog the machine & frankly typically always drive the speed limit. i'll probably wait until some previously owned c6 prices come just a bit closer to terra firma. again though----congrats on your new ride. what color did you get?? bub
p.s. ooops, was it yellow?

Thanks.I do love the C6,but I had no complaints from the C5's either. It sounds like I drive the same way you do.If a car goes high 12"s in the quarter vs. low 13's,it makes no difference to me.Both versions have enough power for me.By the way...I ended up with Victory Red
