Default Transmission Tunnel?

This might be a dumb question, but im new to Corvettes and Manual Transmissions. I just bought a 2004 Z06 and the transmission tunnel gets warm? Not hot, but gives off some heat. Is this normal. Dont flame me, i know im a newbie

Mine gets warm also. Don't put gum in the center console (doesn't come off the foil too well).

I'd estimate it gets into 125-135 degree range ... which is Hot.

Compared it with a RT/10 ( 1995) last week, after spirited driving of both cars. The Viper's tunnel temps were at most 110 degrees.

Just the reverse of what we usually hear at Forum about tunnel heat issues.

Also, the side pipes on the Viper could easily be touched w/o any fear of burning hand.

You must have no nerves left if your hands! I have spent plenty of time in a 93 Viper and it will burn the hell out of your legs if you dont watch it when you get in and out of the car!

Not on the 95's. The exhaust pipe covers really work well. I'm not talking about touching the tips ...

My '03 Z06 gets warm, but not unbearably hot around the tunnel/console. Remember, there is not a lot of insulation for weight purposes. If you are really that uncomfortable, you can always pull out the console and carpets and install a layer of Koolmat or similar insulation and put everything back.

Also consider wrapping your exhaust system. I wrapped mine from the cats back to the mufflers with DEI header wrap. My problem was more about stopping the trans from overheating on track. So I cured a few problems. Reduced exhaust heat against trans and diff and all along the underside of the car.

The arm tray stash still gets pretty warm. But not ridiculous. Adding insulation as suggested like the Koolmat would help from the inside.

There are a couple of things that you can do to significantly reduce the heat soak through!! First i removed ALL of the interior and the center console. i installed a layer of Frost King heat duct insulation on the floor boards and on the entire tunnel. Every inch of the exposed interior was covered!

I will give you some more info and picts later tonight!!

I agree with "Bill Curlee" about the Frost King wrap. I did that and installed a ceramic tunnel plate by Elite Engineering. The interior temp in the console has dropped quite a bit that my stored supply of chewing gum is saving & having
