You do not have to lift the car to fix the column lock.
Bottom line...CLB.
There's absolutely no reason to lift the car. I'd go back and give these guys s@#$t and then drive away after telling them there's noway they'll ever see the car again. Then install the CLB.
Told him what happened he said "Turn the car off open your driver side door and jerk the steering wheel hard,it might work".Than I did exactly what he said(Thans to him) than It worked.
Explain jerking the steering wheel hard when the door is open for me someone....?
and what that does to make it work?
just be careful and dont get caught somewhere u dont need to be, like i was when min finally took a dump. I had to take my stuff apart right there and unlock mine to even get it to the dealer.

My understanding is that the lock mechanism gets into a bind and will not release the steering wheel. Jerking on the wheel from outside the car (get more leverage than sitting in the car) temporarily frees the lock and releases the wheel the next time it is started. It doesnt work every time, but may get you out of a jam. Somebody can correct me if i'm wrong.
Now I am pissed. The other day I got in to my car started it steering wheel remained locked And I said "Oh sh#$$t now I`am f#$$ed" and I turned the car off wait 10 seconds tryed agained nope nothing.I checked the battery connections, waited another 20 minutes but couldn`t make it worked.Any how I called my body Serkan(BAMF AE).Told him what happened he said "Turn the car off open your driver side door and jerk the steering wheel hard,it might work".Than I did exactly what he said(Thans to him) than It worked.Anyway the next day I took it to the dealership I knew there was a recall about this problem, they told me they`r gonna take care of it but car has to stay 2 days in the shop wtf .Than when we walked to next to my car I told him to be careful when they work with it because it`s lowered on stock bolts.Than he gave me the great news since it`s lowered on stock bolts they can not drive on to the lifting machines.I said can`t u use floor jack to lift it up they ve done it when they were changing the tires. He said sorry can not do it because all 4 wheels should be on the air to fix the problem.I said"this doesn`t make any sense how come u can use 3 floor jacks 2 for the front one for the rear.".Anyway to make the story short.Since it was a recall problem he didn`t want to help. And I didn`t want to leave my car to the people who don`t wanna solve the problem.Because I thought they might even cause a bigger problem. Then I left I don`t know everytime I start the car,for unlocking the steering, wheel I have to jerk it to the right. should try a different dealer or shouldIbuy the by pass kit and install my self.Any opions will be helpfull sorry for the long thread guys
Pasha.
Well at least this didn't happen on the poker run.
CLB is a good answer. Someone in the area would help you install, I'm sure. It's actually a very easy install. If you want to go ahead and have the recall done, look into Classic in Grapevine (maybe not too far from you if you are in FW). They used to be horrible, but the service dept is under different management now, and they seem to be doing a good job on Corvettes. Sounds like the dealership where you took your car just didn't want to do the work. I'd avoid them in the future.

well...he actually left out a step. In the event of a column lock, one of the remedies is that the owner will need to shake the car from side-to-side fairly hard while reaching in to "jerk" the steering wheel loose. Both must be done simultaneously. Obviously if the door is closed, you wont be able to reach the steering wheel
other alternatives are wait for a couple of hours and pray it doesnt stay in the locked position, or have it towed.
Either way, any/all M6 owner's need to buy a CLB bypass or you'll be sorrrrryyyyy!

Shaking the car from side to side???? I don't think so...just cycle the ignition off and on while pulling on the steering wheel.

Ok....Good tip! My way seemed to work as well according to Pasha's post! So apparently there's more than one way to knock the thing loose.
Shaking the whole car from side to side would have no effect on the steering lock, I am pretty sure that his jerking on the steering wheel did the trick.

I keep getting sucked into these threads, I think I have to learn from now on to ignore them. Except for the newbies, NO ONE has any excuse for not knowing all about this issue and that the recalls are not a 100% cure (actually do more harm then good).
Yea, this is amazing...I was guilty to of thinking "it will never happen to me" hell I even bought the damn CLB left it in the glove box for 3 weeks because I didn't have time to install, and then mine locked herrreeeeeesss your sign
so for all those who have not installed the CLB, or for all the Noobs reading these posts about Column Lock, it's not IF it will happen to you, it's When it will happen to you This is probably the single biggest and most common problem with the C5
