Has anyone here driven Deals Gap and the surrounding area ? It looks like it would be a lot of fun with the Vette. I'll be down there this weekend with my bike , but plan on returning with the Vette on our way to Nashville in July.
Joe
I am going down there this weekend also, I will be in the area all week for Honda Hoot I to will be on my bike but I have been there many times on two wheels. I have been down there in the vette twice, it is a blast Have fun but be careful a lot of traffic going both ways
Its a great ride at any speed. Did it a couple years ago with a local Corvette club, did it a couple months ago without the local Corvette club. Had a great time both ways. Be sure to get a T-shirt.
Can you go as fast as you want to go or is there too much traffic to do that? Thinking of going with local club end of July.
It's a long way down and a rough ride if you go over the side. The sport bike crowd likes to drag their knees/pegs around the corners, but there isn't a lot of room to get up too much speed.
I've had the GoldWing through it, but didn't scrape the footpegs. Just slow and twisty.
Seriously, how much speed could you all get up to even in a Vette ?
It's is a very cool ride and a beautiful area.
And then there is the surprise of turning a corner and finding a coach bus 2/3 of the way in your lane...

Next time you go through Georgia skip Dahlonega and head to Cleveland. Take 129 North out of Cleveland and you have 129, 60, 19, 17, or 180 in Northeast Georgia. Great roads.
I drove it two weeks ago (Memorial Day weekend) in my 1999 C5 MN6 with Z51 package. 318 curves in 11.4 miles. Its a blast. I took one trip down and then took it again back up, and got the T-shirt . Its well known by bikers but a lot of car clubs use it too. There can be be traffic which slows you down, but many pull over (there are several places for that) and let you pass. If they don't, you can pull over and wait a few minutes for a clear road. Sport bikes will not slow you down, they can negotiate it quite a bit faster than a car.
If you go be sure and stop at the store at the top, its full of "I survived Deal's Gap" type T-shirts and other stuff. You can't miss the place, it'll have about 100 bikes parked in front of it.
When I was there there was no sign LEOs or any other enforcement. Anyway, with the number of curves, real high speed in a car isn't likely. The sports bikes are a different story. Its a good cruise destination.
I drove it in October last year in the Vette. Not much traffic that time of year and as one person said, people will pull over most of the time. You will have to pull over for only the sport bikes. Everything else just disappears in the rearview!! Great fun!!

Very good advice! I attended a school in Knoxville, TN(about 20 minutes away) for 6 weeks a few years ago. I rode my sport bike on that road probably 20 out of 40 days there. I had a bunch of close calls with oncoming cars and trucks in my lane. On a bike you can adjust by moving to the right of your lane, in a car your fu{*ed!
On one day a guy riding a race bike(not street legal, slicks, etc.) passed me and as he pulled ahead I could see he was using both lanes regularly. I guess he was getting a little track practice on the street.
So have fun, but watch out for the stupid people. The slow ones and the fast ones.

Got the Tee-Shirt and the Route 129 Sticker.
Most fun I have had in the Vette. 318 Curves in 11 Miles on a narrow 2 lane road. Driving it will show you what your Vette can really do.
Rule of the Road is STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF THE ROAD. You will hit or get hit by someone in the blind curves if you go left of center.
Driving is fun, not to mention the mountains and lakes along the way. A week or so after your drive you can log on to Killboy.com and go to the day of your drive locate pictures of yourself and purchase them on line.
