Default Clutch issues??

alright to summarize cause im pissed off and not in the mood to type..

408 install... broke trans, replaced trans and clutch, spec stage 3+

installed the clutch with the little plate... clutch ran fine for a while and then it all of a sudden wouldnt fully engage... called spec... they said take out the little plate..

took out the plate... clutch was now SOLID... no problems for a while... no slipping.. pedal halfway up to engage...

now the pedal seems sluggish yet again... feels like its getting right to the peak of the pedal again almost like my slave cylinder is not resetting all the way back to zero or is getting some excess fluid in it somehow and not going all the way back...

anybody have any ideas??

the slave cylinder is the same stock unit, the pedal and reservoir has all been replaced due to a corroding line. is my stock slave cylinder to blame?? is it leaking or letting in air??? the clutch is still holding strong as ever but the pedal engagement keeps getting higher and higher up on the pedal...

clutch has probably 2k miles on it... probably only 400 since we took out the little shim..

It is possible that your slave could be defective as they are pure sh*t plain and simple. First you might try an adjustable master cylinder/ unrestricted line combo before pulling everything to replace the slave. The adj. master cylinder will allow you to fine tune the fluid amount sent to the slave which will denote it's travel. The unrestricted hydraulic line will decrease pressure in the line allowing for faster fluid transfer (both to and from the slave) which solves most of the mushy pedal problems.

I absolutely hate the pu**ies who designed these hydraulic systems for GM automobiles. Both of my cars have suffered from their disfunction.

Sounds like we have much in common. Read through my posts and see what I have done to date for it.

I have the same clutch only around 600 miles on it. I was told that the engagement is higher on the pedal. I also have been syphoning out clutch fluid and replacing it with quality DOT 3 break fluid. I was told not to try to bleed it out, because it will make it worst.

make it worse??? hrmm... sounds like BS to me... i bled an entire bottle of synthetic dot 3 prestone brake fluid through it and never had the clutch pedal feel as good as it did. problem is it just didnt stay that way

i spoke to a MANAGER at spec... all the little peons are idiots.. they told me to put the spacer plate in and the same BS they told you.. then i talked to a manager that actually works on corvettes in his spare time...

"go home and take that spacer out, it should fix all of your problems, we generally like the clutch to begin to engage the driveline within the bottom 1/2-3/8 of the clutch pedal (closer to the floor) and be FULLY engaged by the time you hit 1/2 way through the pedal."

I have a guy you should talk to that installed mine, he is a member here. He has installed approx. 40 clutches on LSx Motors anyways.
His screen name is Slowhawk. He can help you most likely with your situation. Send him a PM, and he should get back to you quickly.
