Thanks to everybody for their input . It's only happened twice in 6 months, and is never repeatable, so I'm not worried. I'll give the key a cleaning anyway, it sounds like this message is related to the security system as opposed to the CLB
So even though I've had the recalls done, if I buy a CLB, when the "pull key and wait 10 seconds" comes on you're saying my car will still drive and not cut off???
The first time I saw the message I attempted to back out of garage and the fuel pump did cut out. Waiting 10 seconds and restarting cured the problem.
I had the first recall done, which only re-programmed the computer to cut off the fuel if this happens. After reading EVERY message here on the CL nonsense, I bought & installed a CLB.
I've never seen mention of a class action. Why is that? Mine has been back 7 times, it's there now and they still act like mine is an isolated incident. I just found this forum yesterday. I had no idea the problem was this rampant.
JD,
You ARE in the best place to find out about all of the crazy quirks about the C5. The dreaded "Column Lock" is probably #1 on the hit parade.
Do some searches and you'll learn tons.
Save yourself some time and buy a CLB (column lock bypass)!
Good luck - and welcome to a great spot!

Clb Is Not As Good As We Think???
I THOUGHT THAT WITH THE CLB THIS COULD NEVER HAPPEN . IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FOR SURE FIX. LOOKS LIKE THE CLB WILL START BITING PEOPLE IN THE AZZ AS WELL. ALL THE FOLKS WHO JUMP PEOPLES **** OVER ACTUALLY GETTING THE RECALL DONE PROBABLY FEEL A LITTLE STUPID NOW.

i have mentioned the class action lawsuit !! . please direct your attention to my trip through hell with this issue . entitled "Need all Opinions" it should hopefully be in the C5 general area. !!!
God What a nightmare.... I had a pending reimbursement claim with GM and i still have yet to hear back from them.. i had to spend well over$400.00 fixing this . FIIIIIIIIIIIIING ... problem.
so .. if someone does what to start a lawsuit .. put me in the class ! .
I get the same message. Installed the CLB about a year ago. I get the message every once in a while. Its funny, I only seem to get the message when its hot out.
It could be your battery. Is it getting old? Is there corrosion on the terminals?
Big chance the battery is out the door. if your certain the battery is good, reset the BCM by pulling fuse 23 in the fuse block located in the passenger foot well. The key must be in the on position first. Then plug it back in. take key out for 1 minute then turn it back on again.
The CLB lost sync with the BCM so thats why you got that message. 95% its because of the battery. happened to me.
I installed the CLB several months ago. Yesterday (for the 2nd time) I received the dreaded "Pull key & wait 10 seconds" message. After doing so, I restarted the car & the message went away. I'm a little unnerved after seeing this message again. Has anyone else seen this behavior with the CLB installed ?
Thanks!
As I'm sure others have mentioned at this point, the pull key message is not necessarily indicative of a column lock failure. It can equally indicate a problem with the V.A.T.S. chip on your key or with your ignition. You should consider cleaning your key, blowing some air into your ignition and or trying a spare key if you have one.

You're incorrect, the CLB can lose sync with the BCM causing the code to come up. Its even stated in the instructions. But it will never leave you stranded because
1. the column lock will not engage
2. the fuel will not cut off
Bottom line..the recall can still leave you stranded. Not the CLB.

My dealership has had to fix two seperate cars that had CLB's that DID fail and shut the fuel off just like the recall. They both came in on a flatbed and we had to do the recall on them to get them running again.
I never had this message appear on my DIC until after having the CLB installed. Now, people are saying battery issue, key issue, ignition issue. I don't believe it. It has to be something with the software of the car. Perhaps, the key resistor may something to do with it, but I think its a software issue. It has to be something like that, there are too many people experiencing the same problems and in common is the CLB. THoughts?

I would still take my chances with the CLB then do any of the recalls. I have heard of far more problems with the recalls then with the CLB.
I don't know what year your car is, but, some '97's and '98's were (still are) plagued w/ this problem. I had this problem and my car is a '98-A4. I finally removed the CLB and had the recall "fix" done to it a few years back. Not one problem since then. Good luck w/ your car.
I have an '02 that has had the first recall done about 2 years ago. I called COH to get a CLB and they told me that it would not work unless the car was reprogrammed back to original (fuel shut off issue) and the dealer won't do that. I have not had any problems, nor do I want to. Do I get the latest recall done and then add a CLB?
