For racing only :yesnod: I was under my '01 Z06 today to do the skip shift mod, when looking at the Pup cats that GM removed for '02, I noticed how they could be a substantial restriction: They are a section of cat material with a cross section not much larger than the pipe size, where as the main cat has a much larger cross section.
The point is, several people here have thought about buying the 2002 downpipe and main cat section to replace the '01 version, my idea would be to simply (for racing only) punch out the cat material from the pup cats(easily accessible from the front flange to the manifold, thereby eliminating the restriction for no cost, and no obvious modification. This could be done especially easy if you took the system off to install an x-pipe.
It has been said the pups are only for an quicker cat operating temp from a cold engine.
