I have both the Escort Passport 85000 and the Valentine 1.
I like the Valentine 1 much better because of the arrows showing the direction the alert is coming from.
I got a ticket last year while running the Escort. I was hit from the rear, like I mentioned it is a better feeling with the arrow showing which direction it is coming from..I have picked up alerts as far as a 1.5 mile distance.
This is my $.02..

Curious. Are you saying that you wouldn't have got a ticket if you had been using a Valentine 1? If so, why not?
bel rx65. That's what I use. My friend has a 6month old v1 and my range was equal to his on all the bands we ran into. No idea how the laser works, not much of that around here.

I'd have a passport forsale if that happen to me! lol
My first radar detector was the original Escort Passport. I had two more Passports since that one but switched to a V-1 with my 2001 C5... I really like the directional arrows and the upgradability.
I own 2 escort 8500 X50's and in less than a years time they both need to re-calibrated. Now, as long as this is under warrenty this is free. But if not than it is fifty dollars plus shipping. So the question I pose is this: About every year or so am I going to have to spend fifty plus dollars to have it re-calibrated?? That sounds like the get-back of the century to me.
I should add that the escort works amazing however, and has saved me more than enough times to pay for itself.
I own tons of high end consumer electronics and this the first item that the manufacturer claims it needs to be re-calibrated every so often.

Would have been more alert of the direction the alert was coming from.
The V1 shows which direction the alert is coming from. In my case with the Passport 8500..I may have gotten an alert which did not show thw direction it was coming from..BTW it was at night in the DARK...the arrow feature lets you know if it's behind you, infront you or on either side day or night..this is an extra feeling of security..
