I've heard nothing but praises for RaggTopp. I haven't used it myself, but plan to in the near future. Delectric grease is recommended for watherstrip maintenance.
There are a lot of high strength (concentrated) alkaline surfactants in the automated washes.
I also got caught in the rain on the way home form Bloomington Gold... I'm on my way out now to wash the car... not the top.
I don't even subject my top to Car wash liquids. I only wash it when abolutely necessary and then I use a product especialy formulated for cloth tops..
there are two products to consider.
1. Ragtopp cleaner followed by Raggtopp protectant. In my opinion they are the best. but they have limited availability some car delaerships BMW, Mercedes or on line from vendors like
www.bettercarcare.com
Sorry lost my internet connection in the middle of the response...
2. Aerospace 303 cleaner followed by protectant is my second choice. it is more widely available at major autoparts stores...
NOTE DO NOT apply the protectant until the top has been thoroughly dried (48 hr)
otherwise the moisture can be encased and permit mold and mildew to grow permanently discoloring your top.
My general cleaning routine is a light brushing followed by vacuuming and a lint roller.
Washing is limited to absolute necessity such as bird droppings...
