Default Window weatherstripping.

What's involved in this and has anyone done a write up? I did a search and did not find anything. Of course, this is for a C5 FRC/Z06.

I need to know the cost and labor time for a DIY. Also, if anyone knows if it's possible to replace the black metel painted strip in between the weatherstrip and plastic too. Mine is chipped or the paint is gone in several spots. I was thinking of just using some touch up paint on it, but don't want it looking ghetto. Cost and time would be good to know for either of these.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my drivers side window strip, I think the heat had made the glue (someone tried regluing it) tacky and it is falling down. So I am going to go get the right kind of glue and clean it and reglue it back up.

I am not sure how much you would have to replace it, but I wouldn't think too much. Are you sure you need to replace it?

So, are you saying I can yank it out, paint it and it'll easily go back in?

The weather stripping above my windshield came half way off when I was driving down the highway the other day! Has this happened to any of you? It was like the sun melted the glue and it just fell off due to the wind. This isn't the first time I have had trouble with weather stripping. My drivers side weather strip ripped from my side window when I rolled it up. At least it is still under warranty and they will fix it for free.

Are you talking about the black metal piece above the weatherstrip or the weatherstrip itself?

Replacing just the rubber weatherstripping is not hard. But, replacing the metal track and the plastic piece is a whole different ballgame. The metal track is just screwed in place but, the plastic piece is glued in. It takes a ton of time and cleaning to get all the glue out.
We need to know exactly what you plan to do in order to get a good idea of what extent of work will need to be performed.

I just want to do the driver side weatherstrip. The metal track i'd also want to repaint if it's easily removed and put back in. If not, I guess I could just use some touch up paint.

the weatherstrip is a piece of cake to replace. Just pull it out and insert the new one and I believe there is some adhesive applied to the ends to hold it in place. The metal track you'll have to play be ear. Remove the screws and see if it will come out easily. Some do and some don't. It all depends on how aggressive the factory was at applying the adhesive during the build of the car. If it doesn't come out easily don't force it. The metal track can be bent quite easily and if you bend it then you'll HAVE to replace it.
Best of luck on the repairs.
