I've been looking for a part to replace the ashtray/lighter area so that is basically just a storage compartment (space for a cell phone, pack of gum, etc). Haven't seen anything like that in the vendors sites. Does anyone know if anything like that is made??
I've been working on this as a personal project. You need to remove the console surround and cut out the ashtray/lighter part. Then glue a small bag to the rear of the console - so when you open the ashtray cover the bag is exposed. Standby for details.
How about a pre manufactured insert for a std (din?) size electrical componen,t such as an equalizer?- The ash tray is useless to a non smoker & there is another electrical plug in the center console. I'd buy one if you know of anyone that makes them.
I designed a replacement for mine to install a switch for my cutouts but it could have taken any shape I wanted. I drew it up and had it machined out of Delrin.
Patches - how deep is your piece? Is it the maximum depth you could have gone? I'm thinking this might be better than my cloth/sack idea, but I'd like it big enough to hold a pair of sunglasses. TIA g
I couldn't agree with you more. Why GM dedicated that space to smokers alone is beyond me. It would have cost them 25 cents to have that as storage, and then snap in an ashtray for those who need it.
Duh! to GM
It's companies like Toyota that are more creative in these areas. Then the US later gets with the program. Japan's cars were the first with door pockets, cup holders, jack kits in bags with organized tire storage, emergency kits, built-in compressors for bicycles, and a whole lot more. The US lags behind in the "Common Sense" department.
WAKE UP GM, FORD, and CHRYSLER!!!!!!!
If anyone markets a clean and practical product that addresses this ashtry dilema properly, I would surely buy it.

There's a bracket for the console trim screw back there I had to notch so the cutout switch would clear. Other than that, lots of room.
