As long as there are over 200,000 C5s on the street, the price will stay the same. Vettes are always changing hands and the next person will always buy something. IMHO

There are a lot of cars that were purchased by the original owners that never modded their cars at all. Now those cars are being sold to newer younger "mod-aware" buyers. It's simple economics - as long as the demand is high and there are people willing to pay the prices, there is no reason for the suppliers and manufacturers to lower the prices.
As far as the C5 holding their value - think back to the end of June 2004. The dealers were clearing their lots of the remaining 04's to make room for the C6's and to sell their cars to boost their future allocations. Those cars that were selling in the low $40's for convertibles are still selling for the same price or more today, assuming low mileage. It won't last forever, though.
I have a buddy that bought a 1SB MY A4 convertible for $40K out the door. That car today with 3K miles on the odometer would sell for about that same amount, meaning that he has owned and drove the car for free.
A guy at work loaned me his Mustang magazine today to read an article about his car. I'd heard they pay less for the same parts so it wasn't too surprising but the more I read the more disgusted I got. The difference is way more than one would assume from the lighthearted joking that goes on here.
Not much chance of the prices dropping on C5 parts. Case in point on the new Z06 C6, examples of two different catbacks Corsa $1900 and B&B $1800. Looks like the new Z has a Viper tax now
