Default Headlight Help

I have a 2001. The headlights go up and down fine but yesterday, they started grinding after they were down which lasted about 5 seconds. It sounded as though the motor(s) were still trying to close and that the gears were just grinding as they had nowhere else to go. This sound familiar to anyone? Is it anything I can fix myself?

Thanks

don't know for sure. sounds like it might be the gears. I think that they are plastic. They do make metal replacements.

yep, had mine replaced under warranty. you can get the brass gears through most of the vendors on the site, a fairly straight forward do it yourself project too.

it's certianly the gears. get a brass set from rodney and you'll be good to go. just be sure to seal that motor back up well, the epoxy didn't hold on mine and i had to take a different approach.

Rodney Dickman's new kit includes a metal T-bar that hold the covers down better than glue alone. He gives two, but I think you only need to use one for the passenger side. The orientation of the driver's side motor holds the cover on when it's reinstalled.
