Hello, all. This is my first post to the forum but I have been visiting for a long time. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I have been fortunate enough to have ownwed Corvettes for some time. In 1972 I purchased (afetr selling my wife's car) a 1968 Corvette convertible that I still own and drive. In the intervening years I have owned a white over red 1986 coupe, a black on black 1990 coupe, a light carmine red metallic 1998 coupe and, just about 8 weeks ago, I got a triple black 2000 convertible. This is the car that I have working toward for the last ten years. The car appears to have nearly every option available for that year. I have only had limited ability to drive the car as I had surgery in April to repair my right shoulder (rotator cuff tears, torn ligaments, ruptured biceps and a few other issues). I am just now to the point where I can drive again. The physical therapist gave me clearance on Thursday. I don't have pictures yet but will post when I do.
Can't tell you how much I have learned from the forum members. I am currently fixing some little things on the car (broken rear storage cover, missing a few hood pad retainers, etc). I have a couple of questions. The car is missing the emissions decal that is on the driver's side wheel well in the engine bay. Does anyone have the part number for that? I ordered one from GM Parts Direct and it came yesterday but does not appear to be the correct one. It does not fit the space where the other one was located. The second question concerns the center storage console. The lid will not engage as it appears that the latch is stuck in the closed position not allowing the console door to engage. Is there an easy fix for this? The last thing is, does anyone know where I can get the leather cover that the owners manual goes into. The dealer ordered the manual for me but of course it did not come with all the goodies.
Not sure about the emissions sticker, perhaps Corvette Museum? If not, take back to the dealer and see if you can get the correct sticker?
As for the cargo latch, checked the C5 parts for Sale section, maybe someone is parting a car out, may be able to get the whole piece or just a latch. Same for the leather manual cover
Several venders have the entire original portfolio that includes the cover, owner's manual, pen, flashlight and video. (For 2000, I don't know for certain if the cover was leather or vinyl.) Corvette Central's part number for the model year 2000 portfolio is 115004. Enter the part number at the left side of their home page to view. May be a little pricey at $84.95, but I don't know where else you might find just the cover. Good luck!
