I wasn't getting any quick responses in the wheel and tire section so I thought I'd post here.
Today I just received my new HRE 547R's wrapped with Continental tires. They are in absolutely new condition. They are fully polished and clear coated. The sizes are 19x10 with 265/30/19 on the fronts and 20x11 with 305/25/20 on the rears. I was so excited when the delivery truck pulled in my drive.
As I was washing them off getting ready to mount them on my Z I turned my back on one of the fronts wheels, which was standing on it's treads. All of a sudden the wheel rolled and fell on it's face on my drive and put pit marks all over the rim and spokes. I was about to loose it. What a dumb a$$ I was to turn my back on these pristine wheels.
I immediately took the wheel to Wheel Works who has done work on polished HRE's for me in the past. The only difference in my past HRE's and these is that these have a clear coat.
Anyone think I made a mistake in taking the wheels there to be refinished or should I have sent them back to HRE to be repaired? They aren't deep gouges, just pits. Should I tell them to take the face off or leave the face on. It shouldn't be that hard to remove the face if they had to. I just want it to be right. I need some advise guys.
Unless your car is a show car why worry about it. If you drive your Vette and she is not a garage queen, more damnage is on the way. My HRE's are not perfect but they sure do look great! Sorry if I sound a bit harsh but the reality of road abuse wins out every time. A couple of rocks to the hood, windshield, pitting of the rims from tire repairs will keep things in perspective. It comes dn to what your willing to live with, good luck but most importantly enjoy
Unfortunately, I'm **** about my cars and they all are somewhat garage queens. I used to restore and show corvettes and keeping my cars in show quality is my pet peeve. Maybe if it was a daily driver I wouldn't care so much, but then again I probably wouldn't put HRE's on it either.
Man that is a terrible story. I can relate. I had a set of rims that I had taken off of my benz awhile back and while I was trying to take a picture of them to sell them 2 of the rims dropped just like yours did. The pisser was I had been so careful for about a year and a half to not curb the rims while on the car then one day all of that hard work was shot down the drain. The rims are still sitting in my garage to this day. But I would think that your rims shop would be able to fix your rim. They will probally buff the damaged part out then possibly reshoot it with some clear or blend some clear in. I am sure it will look fine. If it doesnt, send it back to hre and I am sure they will make it look new if your rim guy wasnt able to.
You're right Stu....That's what I like best about polished, they are so much easier to repair than chrome. It's just a pain in the a$$ as I was just about to pull the Z out and mount these.
I'm sure the local shop can repair it just fine. If there's any doubt I'll get it back and ship to HRE. Just more time I have to wait to get them mounted.
Sorry to hear about this! I would send back to HRE. I have had mine for about six weeks now and I love them. I was very paranoid about not damaging them before they get mountd on the car. I stood one of mine up and was corrected by the installer that if it fell it could damage the rim. Cudos to the installer for being very proactive.

I wish the installer would have told me the same.
I don't know if I can sleep tonight.
Well, I dreamed that a huge oak tree fell and crushed my Z while in the driveway, but the HRE's were unscratched.
I guess damaging my wheel was too traumatic.
After speaking to the owner of Wheel Works I've decided to send the wheel to HRE for repairs. I just didn't feel 100% that Wheel Works would fix this repair without problems with the clearcoat. For a little more $$ and a little more time I think it would be worth it to send it back. I want the wheel pristine like the others.
The Z will have to wait a little longer.
I spoke to Roy ay HRE who said he would simply swap the face out with a new face there and just refinish the lip. That way the turn around would be a lot quicker and I feel a lot better knowing it will be done correctly.

Excellent! ...Roy at HRE is a great help...and it will be done correctly!
