I need help. My 1999 vette won't start. I am getting a single click and then nothing. I don't get the click/click/click that I got when the battery is dead. The car won't jump start, just the single click. What are the possiblities. Is this a starter problem or something else? Thanks in advance for your help.
Sounds like a battery to me. Take it down to Advance or Autozone and have it tested. One of the cells could have shorted out and drained the battery. Good Luck.

Sounds like a realy dead battary, and if it is a jump won't work. What does your volt reading say? Battary Gauge.

All good ideas. I start with the easiest fix. Check the battery cables to make sure they are tight and not corroded. Then get the battery tested. 95 times out of 100 you got it right. If not, check the starter. You can take jumper cables, hook them to another battery and touch the ends to the started terminals. Be sure it's not in gear. If it doesn't start, you may have a melted fusable link. Have it towed to your favorite dealer. Also, when you hook up the jumper cables be sure the ignition is off and the key is in your pocket. I've seen a guy cross the positive and negative and cause $2500 damage. Good luck. I had the same thing last year. It was the battery.
Sounds like a battery to me. The same thing happened with my 02. Tried to jump start it, but it would not start. Forget to turn off the radio and ended up frying it. Had to have it repaired. Put a new battery in and it started, but driving home the air stopped, the windows would not go up or down, everything started shutting down, reduced power, etc. After the radio was repaired, everything was ok. Good luck.
I had the same problem a few months back w/my '98. It wouldn't start, wouldn't jump off, nothing. Everything visually seemed fine, but as I was removing the battery, one of the terminals twisted right out of the thing, connector and all. It had corrided inside the battery to the point of being virtually disconnected. I cut the connector off the battery cable, put a new one on, replaced the battery, and it fired right up. Good luck!
If that is the original battery, it's time for a new one....
I had a similar problem with my 2000, it when dead and I had to wait for 10 minutes with jumpers connected to the battery, while the alternator from the other car "charged" my Vette's battery. After it started, I ran the car at idle for 1/2 hour to let the car's alternator charge it.
The next morning I went down to PEP Boys and bought a 880 cold crank Bosch batttery..... For $80, it's one less thing to worry about.....
