Default Clock problems

Every now & then I get in my '03 Z06 and the time on the clock is off, like it stopped for a few hours or something. I know the battery isn't dead or weak because the car starts fine every time. I reset the clock and it'll be fine for a few days and then do it again. Anyone else ever see this?

I've never had that problem. In fact, it's always very accurate. The clock in my Mazda truck runs fast ... maybe 4 or 5 minutes between regular and DST changes.

I have had the same problem with my 02. It seems though that it doesn't do it if I don't turn the radio off when I shut the engine off. Sometimes I turn it off and when I restart, I notice that the time is not correct. Go figure.

I always turn everything off when I shut the engine down - fan, A/C, radio, etc. Maybe I ought to leave the radio on for a change and see if the clock holds the time?

H have a similar problem when I leave the hood open after a ride. It seems like whenever I leave the hood open over night, the next start the clock is wrong.

I have a 6 year old OEM battery, but I have had this problem for 3 years.

Since the clock is internal to the radio, the radio must be either losing power intermittently when the car is off, or the clock circuit in the radio is losing power (going bad?).

If you use the Theftlock feature on your radio, that would confirm whether the radio is losing power since the radio would be locked afterwards and you would have to unlock it. If you don't use this feature, you may be able to rule this possibility out by enabling it.

On some of the older Delco radios the clock was on a different electrical circuit than the rest of the radio. Don't know if that is still true but maybe worth checking out.

I thought about that as well. But checking the service manual, and there's only one power connection and it's hot at all times (connector C1/circuit 440).

Would your warranty(if it is still in effect)) cover that problem?

Yeah, the warranty would cover it provided I trust some of GM's hack mechanics to replace it without screwing it up on me!!!

Well, tonight I got in the car and though the clock was correct the feature that adjusts the seat didn't work and all the presets on my radio were gone. Does this sound like maybe the battery is going? My car is an '03 and has the original battery. Any ideas?

My thoughts exactly! I'm wondering now with the "Easy entry" thing not working and the radio not holding the presets if it's a battery problem and not the clock.....anyone else see this kind of thing?

If you do have to take it in and are worried about them tearing into your dash, you can take the console/radio bezel off at home. That way, they just have a couple of screws to remove to take the radio out.
