If this method does not work, take it to your local shop and ask them about a product called Frigifresh. I think it is made by BG products. This is a foam that can be sprayed in to the vent system to kill bacteria. They also have a more comprehensive treatment where they screw a small adaptor into your platic ducting under the dash and spray in this foam to kill bacteria and freshen the system. Good luck with it. I use lysol at the base of the windshield with the AC at full speed.
