Intake Question/ Need to Vent
Anyways two days after I bought the car I noticed a yellow c5 coupe behind me. Now when I drive my c4 I'm used to waiving to other corvette owners and vice versa. Well as she drives in to the next line she doesn't even bother to look over. Now we are both stoped at a red light, two yellow c5's next to each other, and this woman doesn't even bother to look and waive. Where is the corvette etiquette, or is it just me taking it to far?Now for the question part, I purchased this car completely stock and like to know what type of air filters you suggest. I was looking into the Vararam, any feed back is much appreciated!
I have owned Vettes for 25 years, and used to see 95% of fellow owners wave. Now it's more like 10%.
As for an intake system, there are lots of options (and opinions) If you are specifically looking for a CAI, the the vararam has proven itself many time at the track. Many will compalin about it's poor fitment, or substandard filter, but mine fit close to perfect, and when performing the old TB inspection for dirt, mine had absolutly no dust or dirt on the outside.

If we miss the wave we didn't see ya...
re the Intake, I am a Vararam fan....
there is a lor if track data to support it HP increase claims, the install is not as tough as naysayers claim, they have upgraded to a cloth filter.
and if you plan on driving though a foot of standing water stay away from ALL CAIs.

As far as the intake, I'm running a Blackwing and like it. The Vararam will give a little more power at speed, but is not as easy to install. Just depends on how much work you want to put into it. The Vararam is a good product.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

My personal experience with women not waving is limited. They see me and can't help themselves...
NOT!
I'm speaking from what the forum reports most often. Women wave much less than men. I think they are afraid that they are being "hit on"
One clarification, the fine ladies that are on this Forum, I'm sure wave as much as any gentlemen from here do.
from Nebraska!!
If cost is no object, the Callaway intake is at the top of the heap as far as quality, design and HP increase. The Halltech and Blackwing intakes are much less expensive, but as-is, draw in warm/hot air. Fortunately, you can modify their intake path and create your own CAI setup. See http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htm for detailed instructions. Cost of parts: $40.
The main disadvantage of the Vararam is that it eliminates a convenient way to bring in cool air, especially if you run headers. Jacking up the engine bay temps is not a good idea when it comes to the life of belts, hoses. and the many plastic parts and electronics that reside there. Using a bottom-breather intake frees up opening of the fog light panels to cool off header heat.
So check with the good vendors who advertise here for intake deals; you WILL like what you feel after the intake is installed and you have driven your C5 for a while afterward.
