My friend just purchased a new GTO from Pontiac. This car has the new z06 engine (425hp). Fellas I think a stock corvette can be taken off the line with this car!!! Its pure muscle!!! All comments welcome!!!
Not to mention that the 05-06 GTO's do not have the C6 ZO6 motor in them....they have the same motor that's found int he C6 vette, the 400 HP 400 TQ LS2.

Actually, the early (newer) GTO's have LS1's, and the new ones (05-06 I believe) have the LS2, which would be putting down 400 hp.

Hi BigMacNYC-
As with any car of this caliber, it comes down to driver.
When a car has the ability to smoke the tires in first and second gear, it becomes the drivers duty to apply traction to the road without losing momentum by spinning the tires excessively.
So, in short, it depends on the driver, not necessarily the car, to determine the outcome of a side-by-side encounter.
I like GTO's - I sat in one in Chicago and was impressed. Good car IMO.
I'm amazed that GM is putting the LS2 into everything. My new Trailblazer SS has the LS2 in it, too bad it weighs soooo much! I'm thinking about switching that motor with the LS1 in my Vette!!!!
I test drove a 06 Red GTO before I bought my c5, and as you can guess I still bought the C5. The GTO came with 0 mi. and a warrenty but its still a pontiac. It was a good running car but nothing special, my vette is much more fun to drive and turns way more heads. IMO the new GTO is just like a Mustang Cobra, its fast, got a nice engine, but thats what your paying for and thats really all your getting. The finish on everything was crap and the whole car felt like it was slapped together from other cars, nothing really original about it. I'm sure one of the main reasons that a stock GTO will run a little faster to 60 than a C5 is because it is blissfully without the C5s standard Runcrap tires.
There are plenty of cars out there you can buy that are both faster and cheaper than a vette, but anything will go as fast as you can afford.
